I know many of you have it/have heard it. What are your opinions on it? Is it worth $50? I'm am considering it, but don't know without hearing it "live". Let me know!
If you also noticed, a lot of people who have the TS9/808 sells them. You can always check Harmony Central's classifieds, like almost every week I see someone selling theirs. I would recommend that you try the MJM Blues Devil or the Fulltone Fulldrive if you are into the tubescreamer sound. plus there are so many good overdrives to choose from, you can also review all the overdrive related subjects if you read thru the bottom of this forum. But if can get them for $50 bucks, I think that's a good deal.

I've never heard the mod, but I used to use the TS-9DX until I heard the Maxon OD-808 (which is, as you may know, the original equipment manufacture's reissue of the TS-808). I've also never heard an original TS-808, however, the OD-808 is a clear improvement over the TS-9. It sounds like a TS-9, but without that hint of whiny thinness that stops the TS-9 from being ideal. The OD-808, is, in short, great.

I put in the Maxon bit, by the way, because I too had the TS-9 and was thinking of getting it modded. However, to me, the pain-in-the-ass aspect of wrapping and shipping it, plus the thought of being without an overdrive for probably weeks... well, the months were going by, it wasn't getting done, and I wasn't happy with my sound. Also, my friend had the Maxon, and that was making me REALLY unhappy with my sound! Finally, I just went down to the music store and traded in my TS-9 and bought the Maxon same day, same place, went home, plugged in, and rocked out. Psyched. I took a loss on the trade of about $45 (very favorably comparable to upgrading/shipping), and got to play the pedal before I bought it. Something to consider...

I havenÂ’t heard the Maxon, and it is probably a great overdrive, but your justifications for not getting the mod are invalid. First, how hard is it to put a pedal in a box, put some cushioning material, and send it in the mail? Second, it doesnÂ’t take weeks. I got a Boss SD-1 modded, and I sent Mike (AnalogMan) an email asking him to do something else to the pedal, but the pedal was already on its way back. This was less than a week after I sent it. Just my thoughts

Jeesh Eddie - it was valid TO ME. Its not SO hard I'll admit, but I'm actually a pretty busy guy and LOTS of things in my life slip by for months when they're just that little bit extra effort. I'm a full time university instructor, a full time graduate school student (at a different university), I lead a full social life (dating, partying, talking on the phone, etc.), workout (weights and running) weekdays, often play sports on weekends, sometimes play guitar when I'm not doing all that or sleeping, and jam every weekend. I also waste time on the internet (like now) and follow other non-musical interests of mine. Plus family obligations. So yeah, for over two months (which included the holidays), I never got around to it and one day just drove downtown and bought the Maxon. There might be someone else here who doesn't want to wait a week (or possibly more) without their pedal and deal with shipping when they can just go down to the store and buy an 808 reissue. If a store that carries Maxons (different brand name but the same manufacturer as Ibanez contracts out their pedal manufacturing to[including the original TS-808]) is near your house, you can have an 808 (reissue) pedal in your hands within an hour of reading this thread. If you've tried them and don't think the reissue is the real thing, then of course, you'll want to go a different direction.

I’m sorry if my post offended you, and I am sure your reason is valid to you. I understand that sometimes there isn’t enough time. I went through graduate school myself a couple of years ago (with the full time job, a girlfriend, martial arts, and playing music almost every weekend, which turned out to be my “real job” after a while), and I am currently back at graduate school pursuing another degree. I am just trying to help out, learn and sometimes share my input. English is not my first language, and I am sorry if my post offended you. As I mentioned, they are just my thoughts, and I‘ve had great experiences dealing with Mike (AnalogMan), since he modded a TS9, TS9DX, and Boss SD-1 for me, and I don’t think it ever took more than 7-10 days, including shipping time. BTW, I did not like the TS9 and TS9DX before the mod, and I am very happy with them now. I’m sure the Maxon is also a great pedal, and I haven’t had the chance to hear it. Best wishes.

Thanks all of you, for your input/thoughts. They were extremely helpful. I've sent my TS9, and I'll likely check out the Maxon in the future. Thanks all!!

I have 2 Analogman TS-9 reissues modded (with brown option) to 808 specs as well as a TS-808. I think that both of the Analogman modded pedals sound excellent. I've had one since he first started doing mods and have not had any problems with it. I would say that the differences between the modded TS-9 and the true TS-808 are so miniscule that it really doesn't amount to much. I would definitely just get the reissue and send it off or mod it yourself. I also have a Klon and a Fulldrive 2 (which I use live). Both are great pedals, with the FD2 nudging out because it does 2 things in one pedal. To me the Klon is superior if you are playing loud. I had a Blackstone but I didn't care much for the sound...too raspy and didn't react well with other pedals. It has a funny buffer in it or something? I hope this helps. Good luck.

No problem Eddie. It sounds like we're leading parallel lives! Vanderbilt, I hope you enjoy your mod - that's what I originally wanted too. It should be very cool. Give us your impressions after you play it.
