There's a cool movie theater called Captain Blood's or something to that effect. It's in Orange County. I was in a very small western film, as a bad guy. It premiered there, & I got to walk a red carpet. In the film I got to lie to Wyatt Earp, ambush some good guys, & get shot to death while in bed with a floozy. The actor who shot me was married to the actress who played the floozy, which probably helped to motivate him.

Sick fuzz & cowboy hats.

don't forget to stop at Amoeba (6400 sunset blvd in hollywood). it's a really great store, and you can easily spend hours there if you want. especially check out the 1.00 Cd bins. i've found more good stuff there (and the store in SF), than anywhere else in the country.

go out the front door of the hyatt, and go right on sunset. The LA Guitar Center is there, surrounded by 4 or 5 smaller music shops. There's also a Carvin store and the Mesa Boogie outlet.

Don't miss Truetone music. They have damn near everything we discuss on this board. It's in Santa Monica. 714 Santa Monica Blvd between Lincoln and 7th. 7 blks from the beach. The "old" Farmers Market at 3rd and Fairfax is probably one of the coolest places in this town. Go see a movie at the Chinese theater or "Cinerama" dome. Venice beach, La county museum, the Getty, MOCA, the Geffen contemporary(plenty of galleries). You won't have a problem finding vegetarian food. To start - the Erehwon Cafe, Real Food Daily(right down the street from truetone), Whole Foods markets. What festival by the way?

http://www.tonemerchants.com is pretty cool. It's near Anaheim station but it's not a shop it looks like a factory unit. They stock all kinds of exotic pedals guitars and amps.

Watts Towers in Watts. The Museum of Jurassic Technology on Venice Blvd in Culver City. They have weird hours, do a google search to find their page. Venice Beach is usually a nice freak visit. A drive in Griffith Park, especially near the (currently closed) observatory is a nice place to look about away from the traffic and noise.

I think there are way too many things here to check out. But I think there are some places that do not have to be visited - like Hollywood Blvd, unless you're into the sidewalk full of stars. But then again, I haven't been there in a while and they are renovating/reviving that whole area. Well, if anything, I suppose it's worth just driving through.

You want to wear sunglasses because you will see so many "beautiful" women that your eyeballs will get a workout - not all the "beauty" is real though. With sunglasses, nobody will notice. Note: keep your head still and let the eyes do the walking.

If you're into art, there's the Getty Center. There they have world class art. And I mean world class. LA County Musem of Art has a nice exhibition going on with Modigliani's n' such which I have yet to still check out.

Santa Monica 3rd St. Promenade is a total people-watcher place like Venice Beach boardwalk. But that's not in the city but the beaches. Again, sunglasses.

There is food galore here. Everything from Chinese duck tongues to Ethiopian lamb stews to Persian Kabobs to Korean BBQ's, etc.

Avoid malls, unless you're going there with your sunglasses. For the most part, all the malls in the country, for all I care, have the same stores. They all have a Starbucks, the Gap, etc. Not worth going.

Enjoy the weather. I've been in Texas and well . . . I like it here better.

It would also help if you would mention what kind of things you're interested in.

You might want to get a hold of the "L.A. Weekly" which is the weekly news magazine that has all the artsy stuff in the city all listed.

If there aren't any where you live, I suppose In-n'-Out Burgers is worth trying out too.

Don't forget your sunglasses.

Near, or in the Griffith Park is the (Gene) Autry Museum of Western Heritage, or as I like to call it, the cowboy museum. Then of course there's the area where the Chinese Theater is. The Hollywwod Roosevelt is kitty corner from the Chinese. Out in front of the Roosevelt is W.C. Fields star in the sidewalk. Norm's Rare guitars used to be just across the street.

Sick fuzz & cowboy hats.

Cool festival...a local band from here has played that fest many times -- Einstein's Sister. It was a worthwhile experience for them, i think, so hopefully it will pay off some for you guys too.
