...I was catching up on stuff at Buddy & Julie's site and found this (dated Jan 03, so you may have seen it already):

"Buddy, anything new on the pedalboard these days?
Greg S.

i've swapped out a few things... after a short stint with the oxygen pedal i've settled with the Keeley compressor... it's beautiful sounding. i've been looking for a "fat, clean, and subtle" overdrive. currently i'm stepping on the Dual-Tone from Prescription Electronics. Demeter Tremolo pedal, and Fulltone FatBoost. "

Thought you might be interested, since we've talked about Buddy's sound before, and these pedals get a lot of attention here. Didn't know he was using the Keeley -- and liking it so much!

He also said on the same page that he goes back and forth between the Demeter and Fulltone tremolos, in the quest for the brown Fender trem sound he loves (who doesn't?!?).

"But I'm a superstitious man...and if my son Michael should accidently be shot by a police officer, or if he should hang himself in his jail cell, or if he should get run over by a milk truck, then, I'm going to blame some of the people in this room, and that, I do not forgive." (That's for Corleone).

Hey tremo, thanks for the update. When I saw him, he had the Fulldrive II, Dual-Tone, Carl Martin compressor, Boss VB-2, Supa-Trem, Line 6 DL-4, seems like there's something I'm forgetting... He was all over the FDII and Supa-Trem all night. Interesting that he's dropped out the FDII, and I guess he's using the newer Fat-Boost? Glad to hear he's happy with the Keeley - I still haven't heard one, but that pedal seems to have some very loyal fans; a lot of tele freaks in particular seem to really love it. I haven't checked out his site in a while, I'll have to do that... maybe I should shake things up and post a message over there - let him know how righteous a JAC comp sounds with Vox, and tell him to come over here and get enlightened/confounded about OD's like the rest of us!! Hey, maybe he eavesdrops now & then... I can understand where he's at on the trem thing, especially as a lover of all things brown Fender... Supa-Trem seems to be a mainstay on my board, still liking yours?

dave a, you are indeed the Quote Meister!

It would be great to have Buddy check in here -- if he has time! Wink

Corleone, I still love my Supa-Trem, but the real estate issue won out, so it's doing studio duty now. Found a worthy replacement, though, in the Guyatone VTX tube trem -- another one that has you seeing shades of "brown" Eek

I pulled out the Dual-Tone for a refresher this morning, into my new Carmen Ghia -- it's a strange pedal... those internal trimpots can TOTALLY alter its character. It can be "dark" (as Buddy has described it), or have a bright, gritty crunch. I still like the 2003 FD2 the best, though, along with the Tour Pro and TBIAC.

vdg: "...you always know it's buddy... -- yeah, even when he guests on other folks' records... Like, there's a cut on an Allison Moorer album, and even without reading the liner notes, you'd say, "That's Buddy Miller playing." Big part of that has to be those unique Wandre guitars. Buddy goes into why they sound so cool in the interview on his site. He said he's checking out an Italia guitar, too... I bet it's the Mondial, as that's the most Wandre-like (I've had that guit on my wish list for a looong time!)

VDG, Spyboy has long been a fave, and Poison Love is in the car CD player right now. You hit the nail on the head - There are great & versatile players, and then there's "stylists". Buddy is unique among twangers to me... He can certainly chicken pick & faux-pedal steel band with the best of 'em - but he's not afraid to go off on a Chuck Berry on steroids tangent, and I've heard him do atmospheric chordal delay washes a la The Edge... I don't think he's too concerned with categories, and you never know what's going to pop out of his amp next. He has chops for days but will often opt for the simplest approach if it suits the tune better. Watching that guy rip for two hours from the side of the stage was one of the most flawless & complete musical performances I've ever witnessed. Not a note out of place, his time was perfect, tasteful use of effects, and his vocal pitch was dead on accurate all night long. Definitely one of my fave musicians.

Tremo, I think we've talked about tremolo pedal board real estate before. Supa-Trem actually wins that contest for me, because it's a perfect fit on top of a Voodoo Pedal Power... Also, I'm in the minority of Supa users in that I use the speed switch quite a bit, and it's the most foot tweakable trem I've found... I do like the Guyatone Flip, and it's living on the board I keep at our rehearsal space. I love the way it merges with the amp, really doesn't sound like a pedal on top of the amp's tone at all... Biggest complaint I have with mine is the increased noise floor - I have the proper adaptor, and have tried switching tubes around, but haven't been able to decrease the noise.

The Wandres have a tone all their own. They have a certain airy zing that kinda reminds a bit of Gretsch, but not quite... can't put my finger on it. I sure would like to find a couple of 'em in pawn shops for $75.00 like Buddy did (I think that's the story), but I don't see that happening!
