Even if Someone came up after the gig and said "Wow! How'd You get such and amazingly organic delay sound? I'm blown away!" it wouldn't be worth more than a couple hundred bucks. Sheeeesh!

Just silly IMO

The amazing thing to me is that it was bidded up to that price. Occasionally, you see a ridiculously overpriced pedal with no bids on it, because the seller thinks it's worth more than it really is. I looked at the bidding history on this one--the first bid was $6.16, and then it went up from there. Who are these people?

What's scary is that to the degree that pedal-building is an art (rather than a science), pedals will continue to be market-need-priced in the way that art is; in other words, it's worth whatever it's worth to someone with the money to pay for it. With cars, you've got a Blue Book value to go by; with pedals, as with painting and sculpture, all you've got is desirability factor. Somehow, the Way Huge brand has really saturated itself in that mystique.

I can see paying a little more for a pedal with expensive parts in it or for a pedal that's difficult to build, but I can buy the Bentley of delays--an Echoczar--for a fourth of this price. Hell, for $2,400, I can buy an Echoczar and still stock my board with boutique pedals! Is anyone going to tell me that Way Huge Delay is worth an Echoczar + a Dyna Red + a Honeybee + a Fish Factory + a Howie + an Eternity + a Teese Wah, with a Barber Tone Press and a Pedal Power II thrown in for good measure?

Remember that Dumble pre-amp that went a couple of months back? $20 worth of parts (if even that) went for over $2000. Some people just keep looking for the Holy Grail rather than admit to themselves they just need to practice more.
