I need some help again, I know that both are different animals, but this is the situation:
I still have my volume problems with my Rivera at home, but working on it, finally I can crank the clean channel (the dirty too, but with more volume...) to make work the power section using the channel this way: the volume up to the 8 o 9 and the gain low at 2 or 3, so this way I can have a nice power section overdrive, but there is no distorsion because the preamp is at low volume, so I'm thinking in use one of those pedals to excite the preamp section, but using the pedal with the volume low (I made a test with a crappy Marshall Jackhammer an it works). What do you guys, think that is better to this use?. The amp will go to a local tech soon, to be moded with my specs, but the high wattage still being a problem because I don't like to much the possible solutions just because they can change the tone of the amp so much, so I think that this can be a good solution... |

I actually bought for 20 bucks...a tiny external master volume switch from a small company called Carl's custom Guitars from Ebay.
It's called the Volume Box. It's housed in cheap ass plastic but I'm thinking about having Donner make a special metal and cool painted box for it...I used industrial velcro to hook it to the back of my Amp so it just plugs rigt into the return for my FX Loop...this way I get an Invisible volume out of my amp without a boost pedal or an ettenuator right off the bat...I mean I get to crank things a bit louder-like 6-8 instead of 4-6 like I normally would) So my amp is just driven more with a fuller tone naturally. But it's not like boosting with Attenuator which would really put a ton of stress on the tubes...It doesn't colourize the sound at ALL either. A friend of mine who's an electrical engineer took it apart and said it was a great design just in dire need of better housing. So...I dunno maybe this will help with your volume problems...go on ebay and type in "Volume box" The one thing I'd like to say is that a little goes a long way with this thing's Knob. So you can get fantastic tones at bedroom playing volumes with the darn thing. Hope I was of some help. "As long as there is a lower class, I am in it. As long as there is a criminal element, I am of it. As long as there is a soul in prison, I am not free." - Kurt Vonnegut. |

If I remember right you have a R-55. The volume box would do no good with this amp as it already has active send and return controls for the loop that do the same thing that the volume box does.

Yeah Dosmun, you're right!, I'm playing with the controls of the loop also to reduce the volume, and with all I'm getting good results; but I'm thinking in take a look at the Keeley DS-1 Ultra too(because I don't know if with the Mosferatu I will get the amount of gain that I need...), have you ever tried the Keeley's DS-1 with your Rivera Dosmun?
Thanks for your help Cary! |
