I've been playing with a Boss GT3 for a couple of years....cheap...but the distortion is biting and punchy. I'm looking for a higher quality (less noise...more depth) effect that sounds similar to this. I don't care to model an amp of any kind...just want an effect that I can bounce around on muted lows...then race around on mids and pinch harmonics. I like Billy Gibbons' sound...but something a bit more punchy would be nice.

have you checked out electro-harmonix new HOT TUBES yet? sounds like you may like this one!

get a rat or ds1 or big muff, something like that. nothing extreme such as metal zone because you can loose yout tone with something like that.
The best thing is : try everything you can with possibly with your equipment and thrust your ears ! Hope this helps !!!!!!
