the baby blue was my favorite overdrive till i played out with it and it didn't cut through the mix, sounded like a fuzzbox more than an overdrive, and had a serious output drop when the battery got a bit weak. i think it's the ultimate pedal for simulating cranked amp tones at bedroom levels.

I think the Baby Blue is an excellent pedal. It's not my holy grail, but with certain amps it works fantastic. It needs cleanish amps to excel the most.. It's great with my 1970 Twin. I find the Reverend Drivetrain although noisier to be able to do the Baby Blue thing and even offer more gain, sustain and flexibility.. Sometimes I like the Baby Blue more, sometimes the Reverend. (then of course I also use a Klon, a Tube Screamer, a Moreley Jd10, Tonebone Distortions, various Fuzzes, etc depending on which amp I'm using at the moment! It's great to have variety. I think back upon the MANY YEARS where my only od or dist pedal was an MXR Dist+, then a Hot Tubes, then a Rat,etc... damn I could never imagine only having 1 ever again!! Smile

ERIC, i had a drivetrain too. great tone i thought. fat. im true bypass a phobic though. if i just get the tonebones and the banzai stuff. mabe then i can concentrate on playing more.

Hey MOE nyuk nyuk nyuk... Smile I have no real lo-wattage 'bedroom amps" either. However I do have a bunch of 50-100 watt amps that still sound good turned down. I'm lucky to have a basement space where I've built a studio to crank up my amps.. In fact I actually play louder at home than at any bar my band plays at, other than the few and far between outdoor gigs.... I fully understand your phobia about true bypass vs. non-tb. I don't have that but it varies according to what I'm using.. The Reverend definitely affects the signal significantly when turned off. The Klon does too though not as bad and so do lots of my other pedals. SOme non-tb are much worse than others.. I don't seem to mind my Boss or Ibanez typically..... As for your stmt about if.....then you can concentrate on playing. Careful with that one! I've found if you really get into gear, it never stops!!!!!!!!! You'll always love experimenting with new and different stuff. It's not like you're always dissatisfied or anything, but instead you just end up loving variety and appreciate all the great choices that are out there today. AS long as you're playing guitar thru it, having fun with it, and not looking at it and polishing it all day that's what counts! ERIC

Greetings all. I've been lurking on this board for a couple of weeks, and now, I guess is as good of time as any to make my presence known.

I too just received by BBOD last Fri., and I I'm just going to have to be the wet blanket on this thing. It just doesn't work for me. Nowhere near as transparent as I was hoping. Also, this unit has a particular nasty pop when engaged (is this normal, or could it have a bad footswitch).

Anyway, I'm going to contact Hari about sending it back. Unless, someone is interested in taking it off my hands for a resonable price. Would save me having to deal with Intl. mailing.

So, if you know anyone interested in getting one of these things quick, lemme know

How much you want for it? I may be interested.

Gibsonchild:

I'll take $185 shipped for it. If you want it, act soon, because it will be heading back to Sweden by the end of the week. I've got ebay references if that is necessary.

I might be able to take it off your hands.
It sounds like you have a faulty switch.
I had the same problem with the first one I had. But a new switch can be fixed for about $40.

Email me, also if your interested in trading that would be cool too.

Compblue, I've had the same problem with my Baby Blue with switch popping and it sometimes drives me nuts but I love the pedal. What kind of switch did you replace it with to eliminate the problem? And is that all you did because it seems like it's a problem with the circuitry needing a resistor by the input jack. Thanks!

Yea, mine pops as well.. .I'd certainly guess it's not the switch but instead the circuitry like Dean said. All my PRescription Electronics' pedals' switches popped too and worse than this one. That included the Dualtone, the Germ , and the Throb.

Eric, thanks for your feedback on the Baby Blue vs. the Drive Train. I was hot to try the Baby Blue thinking it may be the one for me, but if it has less gain than the Drive Train maybe not. I keep comming back to the Drive Train and the Valve Tone. With those two pedals I can cover just about all the ground I need to right now.

But then theres the
Banzai Cold Fusion...
Banzai Fireball...
Maxon OD820...
Fulltone FD2...
Tone Bone Classic...
SIB! Varidrive...
Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde...
etc., etc., etc.!

I actually sold my first one because of the popping, but I am thinking on buying a new one and trying a new switch, I actually did not try this yet. Or maybe eric is right you need another resistor.

I thought that popping was stored statc electricity and went away after a few on/off switchings.

Yeah, that's usually the case with most pedals that are true bypass, but in the BB's case Bjorn doesn't use a 3PDT. Instead he has an internal circuit bypass because it's a DPDT switch with LED. I believe that is the reason for the pop, it's inherent to the circuit design. I e-mailed Harri about this twice and hope he speaks to Bjorn about a solution. With my experience I believe the only way to cure this is a resistor at input stage. But of course I'm open to other's suggestions.

From Aron Nelson's site:

Q: I get a pop when switching my effect in and out. How do I stop this?

A: The typical method is to put a "pulldown resistor" from signal to ground at the front and end of your circuit. This is implemented as a 1 meg resistor from signal to ground. Just put one at the beginning of your circuit board (before the input cap) and another at the end (after the output cap).

I think, in a lot of circuits, the tone and volume pots act as a "pulldown" after the output cap, so start with a resistor to ground at the input first.

Hi Eric,

Just curious what kinda a guitar and other amps you are playing the BB trough. I also have a BB and a DriveTrain, and I get much more sustain outta the BB than the DT. Especially when my thouch is there. Btw try to boost the mids heavily with a eq or amp, use a 'bucker guitar and your Twin, BB all control around 1.00 o'clock. Would very much be interested in what you thought.

I do agree that the BB works better with some amps than others, but so do all stompers IMHO. For me the BB is best with a 6L6 amp close to or at break-up for a singing sustaining lead sound. For a low-gain OD, it works great to emulate a overdriven amp, but to for my taste others are better for that low-gain thingie.

Ok, I'm interested. I live in England at this moment so you could even send it from Sweden. I'm actually Finnish so I have an address in Finland too. Let me know
