WhatÂ’s wrong with being rich? Smile
My last “real” job was as a musician (playing harmonica). Someday I want to be rich, but it is not my number one priority in life.
Currently I am a student.

there's not a damned thing wrong with being "Rich," as long as you aren't elitist and selfish, as is often assumed of all "rich" people.

Hope I get this correction in before my pager goes off. Concerning my last reply. I truly play guitar because I love it, not for any money. Man, I remember looking at guitars walking around with my dad as a young kid wanting one so fricking bad, but played trumpet for 10 years until I saved up myself. It was not because my dad was a bad guy. You Jimi Hendrix was on TV a few times with people getting stoned severly. Well dad put 2 & 2 together and he thought TRUMPET. Me and Lawrence Welk you know. My humor can be strange at times, but believe me " I love playing guitar " And my kids? Let's all sing.. How much is that trumpet in the window......... Nah, guitar and keys would you please... Peace.

I work in the trades. I do industrial insulation in the chemical and nuclear industry. Every year it kicks my ass harder than the last. You can make as much money as you want. Lots of overtime
as long as you can stand it, or until you drop whatever comes first.
I love guitars and related gear. I sleep
with a Tele by my bed. I'm not kidding, my wife gave up a long time ago.
I was on stage when I first saw her in the audience. Just this last Nov. me and the wife were at the bi-annual guitar show in our area, and someone asked me how long I've been playing guitar. My wife chimed in "He was born with one in his hands". I thought that was funny. When I was a little kid I heard the Ventures on the radio. It was a call from the wild. Then I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. I was possessed. I was in and out of bands through the 70's and 80's. I could never find the right people. It's hard finding people who are really committed to music. One of my best friends who was a Frontman in a band we had just died this last year.
He was a victim of alcohol. That's where
the bar scene can get you. I reached a point where I had to make a good living.
Man I still have the fever though. Every now and then I get out with the boys and wail. In the meantime I have the Tele by my side in case of an emergency.

Hiiiiiidey Ho! And Happy Holidays to all

Yes it is I Mr. Hanky here to spread holiday cheer and general mayhem.
As you all know that is my job, unfortunately itÂ’s a seasonal gig and it really doesnÂ’t pay that well but it does wonders for my blues playing. IÂ’m livin it man.

Here is my tale of woe, hopefully it will inspire some struggling musician out there, probably not. When my last serious band self destructed as most bands seem to do I found myself at 31 with no real career and no band. The band was great and we did the whole nine, Gigs, Demos, Rehersal. Lawyers, more rehersal, get the picture. So I decided I needed something and my approach was as follows.
1) You have to work, period
2) If it is going to keep me from that which I love then I should at least be well paid and in a position of high demand, correct?
3) I did not want to spend 4-6 years studying something other than music, no friggin way!
So I decided COMPUTERZ, I went to a local tech school (Chubb Institute) and busted my balls for 5 months full time and presto, new career. I started on the help desk (YUK!, I’d rather be in a Brittany Spears cover band) and quickly learned that there is a lot of $$ to be made in this field if you choose to pursue that, and I did. Answering the phones sucks! And I wanted something “more real” So I just completed my Oracle DBA certification and that is that. I am an Oracle Database Administrator. I also want to note that this does not take a lifetime to accomplish but it sure was not easy either!

Thanks for listening and Happy Holidays
Mr. Hanky Oracle8 Certified DBA

Mechanical Engineer (Bachelor of mechanical engineering, University of Surrey, England). Currently product manager with an international hydraulics supplier (very Dilbert job). Pays quite well, but almost all the money go to fund my G.A.S. Got a wakeupcall when I was outbid on ebay for a Way Huge Swollen Pickle in january. My high bid was $450 (dont know what on earth I was thinking). Hasn't bought anything after that (almost, got a great deal on a CAE dual line mixer, minor setback in my treatment program).

Set out to be a musician in my teens after completing training as a car mechanic. Went to GIT in the early ninties, but eventually got boored with practising, didnt get any good gigs going either. Stopped playing for a little while. Went back to school and eventually started a band in my spare time with some friends just for fun and have playing in a band since and we have the occational gig. Still daydream about being successful with my band. Still get the feeling when I see a big band that it should be me up on the stage. Still haven't given up the thought that maybe some day it might happen, though it probably wont.

Dont practice anymore though, just play and love it.

I'm an advertising professional. Handling clients and making marketing plans is my day job. It won't make me rich, but I love it. Advertising is the "Rock and Roll" of business life as someone stated. I have to agree. Got a nice wife, some guitars, amps, pedals, a band to play with....guess I AM rich??

Well, my job right now is to find a job. I graduated from Western Washington University with a Accounting/Computer Science degree in 99'. I then wanted to learn a little more about networking. So I took Mcse prep classes(kind of a waste, could've passed by with just books and internet). I have attained my Mcse+I and Mcdba(I still have to upgrade to win 2000 track; not looking forward to that Smile ) Since beginning of the year, I've been browsing the job sites(and guitar sites Smile ). At least I have plenty of time to play guitar - a real blessing.

Hi,I'm Dave & I live in Phoenix. I work as a customer service "professional", answering questions about auto emissions testing in Massachusetts, selling fishing licenses for the state of Washington, & entering personal info for background checks for firearms purchasers for the state of California. Between calls, I surf the net. That is what I'm doing at this very moment. I discovered this forum that way. Within the past few days I've set up a site for young guitarists to look up tab sites & gear reviews etc. I've mentioned Musictoyz quite a bit on that site. I am not a wealthy person by any stretch of the imagination. I play the guitar though, & that in itself enriches my life. I also enjoy talking with people on the internet, sort of like what we're doing now.
