Hey, do you guys know of a good warm low end distortion or fuzz or overdrive pedal? I'm not much into the searing high distortions or stuff like that. I want to make my sound smoother and heard this can do the trick. Please help me out, I'm in a dilema.

To start the ball rolling, there's the Maxon OD-808 (the reissue of Stevie Ray Vaughn's famous TS-808). Similar, but more upscale and flexible (compression cut switch) is the Fulltone FulldriveII. Even more upscale is the Klon Centaur. Fulltone's '69 Pedal is a high quality, low gain germanium fuzz. There's lots of others that other people will hopefully add. The problem is that there are so many good ones that its hard to try them all! You might tell us your equipment (amp and guitar/pickups), type of music you like to play (even maybe a target artist or song(s)), and a price range.

Thanks for replying. I have a Deluxe American Strat 98' or something like that with three single coil pcikups. I have a Fender 112 Deluxe. I play mostly jazz with alittle rock and my price range is around 150 and down maybe a little higher.

the wells nyc is a pretty dark pedal; plus it's germanium, very tube like. The NYC Big Muff can get very dark, too. But of course I'm using a pretty dark sounding old marshall...

The Black Cat OD - 1 sometimes known as the " Freddy Fuzz " . With the gain down and the output up your tone gets bigger and warmer . Up the gain and it's pretty " fuzzed " out . I'm pretty sure " Toyz " has them and it's like $99.95 or so .

Twitch...if you favor more jazz tonalities, OD, Fuzz or distortion may not be the effect to "smooth" out your sound. If you're looking to round out your tones but preserve as much of amp/guitar tone as possible maybe a clean boost would be more to your taste. There's a good discussion in the other section on clean boosts. With the clean booster you can get richer, fuller tones, and just a smidge of OD if you want. Don't settle for a low-end unit if you can help it. There are a lot of good deals in the HC classified ads, EBay, etc. for higher end units at good prices. Take your rig to a local shop and try out the different effect varieties out there, then get it used. You'll get a better product with a higher resale value in case you need to turn it over.
