Carl, I looked up an old post of yours and saw that Trower has the FD2 after the DejaVibe.

Hendrix had it both ways.
From when he bought his Univibe (July '69)
thru Woodstock, BOG, Berkerly(5/70) the vibe was after the fuzz.
Sometime later (7/70) it can be seen before the fuzz.

I believe in certain setups, Trower had it before or after as well.

I find I can't run a fuzz or heavy distortion into a vibe EXEPT with the Captain Coconut 2. Because it has a Center control, it can be dialed so the fuzz into vibe works well.
I imagine on other vibes, if you messed with the internal adjustment that does the same thing as the CC-2's Center control, you can get useable fuzz>vibe sounds.

Thanks Carl!

Right at the moment I'm not using a pedal for gaion / distortion. I've been wondering about getting the VL SparkleDrive.

I'm getting a decent sound with the DSL-401 on the OD1 channel with the gain on 3 and the Guitar > RotoVibe > DejaVibe!

on the Trower/Sparkledrive thing I plugged my Gold Deja into a Sparkledrive into a Tube Dancer (Morgan Miller)and thru an RV-3,,,, the Sparkle works real well in this set up, as it lets some of the undistorted vibe thru and does the 'swallow' without eating the whole note, and I cant get the trower sound without a bit of reverb to get the Rolling going and soften up the vibe a bit--- the Sparkle has the right TONE, but it does not have the Gain/Sustain by itself,,, if your not running your amps hard enough, it doesnt have enough 'sing' by itself,,, I use the clean boost side of the Dancer for that,(after the Sparkle), the Fulldrive had the sustain but was a little too mushy,,,, the Sparkle has the tone but not quite enough gain.....(my $.02 on my day off)...Donner

to get the woodstock vibe sound , you have to have the vibe after the fuzz face , and the fuzz face used at woodstock was silicon. Ive studied up on this quite extensively. Hope it hepls........tron Oh ya and to get the high pitched vibe sound Jimi would kick on the wah [WHICH IS PLACED BEFOR THE FUZZ]... and that would put him in high gain, super high pitched, univibe land. SETUP...guitar,,,wah,,,fuzz,,univibe...

That's correct. Problem is most Vibes washout with heavy gain before them.
The CC-2 is the only pedal I can run the fuzz (BC-109c) fullout into the vibe.
I just started with the Vib'e's CENTER OFF, and slowly brought it up to about 9:00, to where those BOG/Woodstock tones were happening.

I imagine you can do this with other Vibe clones by messing with their internal bias adjustment.
I suspect the Univibe Jimi used at Berkeley/ BOG etc, happened to be able to accept a full bore fuzz this way...because later period live stuff, definitely shows his Univibe FIRST in line. So, it just shows that the originals were probably NOT all set the exact same...which is why people claim no two originals sound alike.

I even have a boot show, the LA Forum (4/25/70), where it's obvious the fuzz before vibe is not working out too well.
That exagerated phasing swoosh is there everytime he turns the Vibe on. NOT like Woodstock or BOG.

No, you mean Blah Blah Woof Woof, as our beloved Jimi said.
I know the exagerated phasing sound you're talking about from some of those '70 live Jimi recordings. I personaly dig that sound. That's a univibe after a fuzz face, right, not before.

It depends on the show and what time frame you're talking about.
