I just received a used but pristine condition MD3 today. When I placed it on my pedalboard and powered it with my PP2, I am getting tons of noise and hum. It is also making all my other pedals REALLY sensitive to touch. Just bumping them or switching them on, makes a LOUD noise! ALL problems go away as soon as I unplug the pwoer cable to the MD3. Anyone else powering an MD3 with a PP2? Any ideas what could be causing this?

I have used different cables all around and nothing seems to change it.

Pedals on my board are:

Loooper > TonePress > Hotcake > TIM > BBOD > TB Classic > MD3 > DLS Chorus Vibe > Amp.

Thanks

T

one of my md3's and a mc3 (chorus) had a "testy" input jack that caused the same problem. godlyke was very cool about this, and replaced one pedal and fixed the other. you might want to contact them and see what they say.

i use a PowerAll, but a PP2 should be fine. sorry, i didn't have a better answer for you.

I've owned two MD-3's and powered both with my PPII - and never had any of the issues you've described, Tim. I think Jon may have diagnosed the problem/solution for you!

Thanks guys, but excuse my ignorance ..... who/what is Godlyke? I am in Canada, so shipping it of to the US is not a great option for me. Plus, while cosmetically pristine, it is a used unit. Are the jacks so specialized that I couldn't have it replaced locally (i.e. more cost effective)?

Godlyke is the North America distributor for Guyatone, Emma, Bixonic, Jacques, HAO, etc. you can check out the web site here:

and yes, you can probably have the pedal repaired locally, however, but you should contact them anyway.

Spent today troubleshooting and trying to narrow down the problem. At this point it appears to have been a faulty (intermittent) Georgle L cable between my BBOD and TB CLassic. Odd that it was never a problem until I added the MD3, but Murphy's law I guess Smile

Tone Dog, you may be right about the George L's. They have caused me a bit of grief as well. I think it is important to make sure that they are made with good clean cuts, and that the tops are screwed down nice and secure.

The MD3 is working fine now, and sounds pretty decent. I may opt for more in a delay though. Probably a DL4 or DD20.

Cheers

Glad to hear that it wasn't your MD-3, Tim! Fixing a George L is alot simpler, less time consuming and CHEAPER!

Regarding the George L's, I really think they are great, but they can be a problem even for those of us who typically do a pretty good job making them up. Several of us reported similiar problems just since I started that other thread.

I'm not trying to be snobbish or exclusionary about it, but for those guys who spend most of their time playing at home, it's not a big deal if one craps out on you. But if you spend most of your playing time each week in front of an audience like I do, it becomes a bit more problematic. My point is this: why take the chance when a high quality soldered cable is going to sound just as good but be more reliable?
