I just installed a set of Rickenbacker retro-fits in a 360/12. Pete Biltoft at Vintage Vibe Guitars made them.

A P-90 for the bridge and a mini-humbucker with magnet pole pieces (not unlike TV Jones Magnatron pickup)for the neck. I also installed .0047 pf caps, one directly in the bridge circuit and the other across the two outer lugs of the 5th knob (neck output control).

Probably not exactly Rickenbacker, but really excellent sounding, and a definite step up from the hi-gains that were in there already.

The neck pickup in particular is quite stunning. Really full and meaty, and the 5 knob with the capacitor mod really allows for some great sounding inbetween settings with the bridge pickup.

They were also considerably cheaper than Rick toasters (which sell for 150 pounds sterling/300 USD in Europe). So if you are not bothered about about having a vintage accurate sound in your Rick and feel like going for something different, go for it. I did, and I now have a far more flexible and better sounding guitar.

Interesting to hear and thx for the post.

Ricks make for some awesome rhythm guitars
and I imagine different pickups could add a lot more variety.

I think Vintage Vibe Guitars offer a great service.

When it comes to more regular pickup shapes there is a huge choice from humbucker-size P-90s to single-coil size humbuckers. Whatever guitar you have you can have almost any pickup style in there. Unfortunately, this hasn't been the case with Rickenbackers, up until now at least.

I am sure there is one of you that has always wondered what a PAF style pickup would sound like in a Ric ... Well, now you have that opportunity.
