Hey folks. I did the pawn shop circut today and found a crate vc50h head for $165. first off, any of you that own this amp, could you describe the tone a bit, as I didn' thave time to sit down and try it out. Second, do you think $165 is a fair price? they have the 2-12 cab there too for another $155. There is a head and 4-10 cab on ebay right now around $200, but it's described as beat up, but not abused.

Anyway, just looking for a possible new toy or something to turn on ebay for a quick buck.

Sorry, F1sh, I've never owned one myself but one of the guitar players in a former band used one for a few years and I recall that it sounded pretty good. I think it's the best amp Crate made and for $165.00, I don't think you can go wrong. I'm pretty sure you could recoup your money if you decided to sell it.

I used a VC30 1-12 combo for a long time. I sold it to a friend cheap only because I needed to make room for other stuff. Great sounding amp, especially the clean channel pushed with an OD.

I use a Crate Vintage Club 50 combo. I'm not much on describing "tone", but it's a very sweet amp. Extremely underrated. I agree that it's the best amp that Crate's ever made.

I don't know about the 50 series, but I recently got my son a VC30 1 12. I used it a whole night o aloud gig and was VERY impressed with the tone.
possibility alittle shaky on servicing and durability, but for 165 bucks you can't really go wrong.

Boutique-like tone for very low bucks.

also ,it's a pawnshop, offer them 140 or 130 and have fun.

My main amp now is a CRATE Vintage Club 50 head. It's one of the blond ones.I've read that the black ones have more gain suitable for heavier rockers. The Blond ones are better for classic rock, blues and blues rock, which is what I play. The Clean Channel is absolutely stunning with my Fender Strat with the EMG DG-20 pickup assembly. On the Lead Channel it is a rockin amp with my Gibson Les Paul.I love this amp.I use it with Gallien-Krueger 4x12 with Celestion Speakers. You did not go wrong by buying this amp.If you are into the heavy stuff,a good distortion/fuzz unit does well. With my Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Faze I get the Godsmack thing going. But for blues and classic rock, the amp does great. For solos I kick my Zoom PD-01 overdrive for those singing solos.

KEEP ROCKIN'

the VC line is the ONLY Very Good amp they've ever made...that Ive heard.

but, on a valuation/tone/resale filtering...I gotta say...

...when you see bassman 50 watt heads going for $225-260 on EBay..hard to pony up for the Crate, esp. given resale considerations...and the bassman is just a better friggin' amp...imho.

but tone is personal, so what do I know. Smile

I agree oakland, but not everyone knows what we know. =)

Anyway, I havn't bought the amp yet, waiting for something to sell on ebay so I have some extra cash. If it's still there, I think i'm gonna go down and offer them 140 or 150 for it.
