First off...I got to try some BJF pedals at a strange little gig tonight. Jammin' with the old timers! That's right, a country gig with some genuine old old old school country players (one of which is my father-in-law) at - you guessed it - the American Legion Hall.
So the stage is already set with some crappy amps, drums and other odd instruments. Hmmm...can't drag in the Dr.Z. So I use the Fender Cyber Deluxe that's on the stage...yummy! Well, I knew I would be playing Roy Nichols, Jimmy Bryant and Hank Garland licks so I brought along with me the Pale Green Compressor, Tri-Color OD, and Sea Blue EQ. Set the PGC to some light compression at unity volume, set the TriColor to very low drive (body @ 11oclock, drive @ 3oclock) and the Sea Blue was unity volume with treb.@2oclock and bass@3oclock. Bada boom bada bing...instant tube glory!! The pedal steel sound on my tele bridge pickup sounded better than I ever have attempted with my rig! That combination of grit and compression (I generally HATE compression) was the trick. The SBEQ helped to warm up and "tube" the sound. Awesome little trick, that pedal. The Tri Color OD is pretty much the same guts as the LGW, but to my ear sounds brighter..which is why I chose to use it for this job over the LGW. The Tri Color cleans up very very well and for country players, it delivers that nice light clean/grind with a little sustain on the notes. Like I said, it was a funny little gig to try these pedals. The band I played with only rehearsed some of these tunes (most of which I have never heard before) in 2 hours 2 days ago...so it was rough in places. REEEALly rough. But I can't tell you how much fun I had playing these old old country tunes...pedal steel licks, chicken picken', man it was just a blast. (BJF pedals courtesy of DonneR. Soundclips of each pedal will be posted soon.) |

Cool Beck- those are fun gigs sometimes, situations you might not have searched out yourself but are fun to walk into......
I wonder how many people still end up doing gigs on other peoples amps these days?? or do fly in rentals.....? |

I've never gigged with anyone else's amp.... It doesn't really happen much around here.

oh yeah the LGWonder and Tricolor are the same except for the chip - the Tricolor has the new one BJ ships with it now, and the LGW has the same Tl082 you put in there (which I really like for more of a clean boosting setting btw)

Yeah, I'm falling for the LGW all over again. Gonna be tough to send it back.
I will have to scrimp and save again...it is definitely worth it with this pedal. |

Beck,
Any clips yet? I'm still dangerously close to buying the LGW, I'd love to hear some more clips of it in action. |

Soon, Troy. Probably next week. Family emergency has wrenched everything for now.

A gig on someone else's gear can either be the most exciting or most dreadful thing!
I got stuck with a solid-state Peavey recently at a small bar gig. I was supposed to play bass, but the bassist showed up and the gtrst didn't so I went back to guitar and inherited the Peavey... well it sounded really great, I was so presently surprised by the little bugger. It was one of the newer ones with a vintage side and a modern side. I went vintage of course. I wouldn't sell my Vox to get one, but it was inspirational for one evening. sorry for the hi-jack Beck.... I plan on getting a few BJF pedals this winter. I've got a few gear sales to make and then I will be posting here non-stop about the merits of Bjorn's pedz. The EGDM (my only BJF pedal to date) has been pure crunch pleasure with my Vox. |
