Not sure why I wanted this pedal again but decided on picking up one used for a great Price...Thanks Khaled!
IT does have some descent tones in it once you dial it in and get use to the controls, this pedal alone is just ok for my style but I bought it to use with the Fulltone FD-2 maybe as a lead pedal. Let me tell you the FD-2 into the Distortion pro is absolutely a killer high gain tone, It gets a nice Fat saturated tone still dynamic and will still clean up with out getting to muddy. You can actually just use your volume knob to go from classic rock to a singing fat solo tone. I'm going to experiment with this tonight with my band just to see if this setup is worth keeping, I can get similar tones with my TB Classic but the FD2/DP-1 combo is still a different tone it actually sounds fatter! |

I'll admit I've thought about it a time or two, but then I plug in my AM SD-9/Silver and I quickly forget about the Distortion Pro. I'd have to have one sitting infront of me again to have it really try to disuade me. I think if it's used solely as a lead pedal it would be a good thing but I was trying to use it for a chunky rhythm thing when I had mine and I just couldn't get it to work out.

as a rhythm pedal it can be kind of dark unless you back off the volume slightly but it seems when its goosed with some very mild OD with a slight treble boost the DP-1 takes on a whole new character. You can actually get some Palm muted legato type riffs because the Bass is much tighter sounding.
I will see if I can get a couple of recorded Riffs up! |

hey do you run the dp into a distorted amp or a clean amp. I've been very curious about running it into a Marshall Plexi running heavy to get more gain (as opposed to a boost or od) but didn't know if it was designed for that purpose. The Fulltone website mentions it is to be used with a distorted amp, but I don't know whether he means "just beginning to breakup" or "full on". Its a little too expensive to sit on the shelf if I really don't need it.

Hey glad you like it J!
before packing it up, I obviously made sure one last time it was working properly. I was pissed, because I liked it a lot! I really like the tone of this pedal when the saturation knob is backed off quite a bit, nice, warm and articulate tone. Just the way I like it. MUCH better than the "brown" setting, IMHO. quote: I'm running it into a Clean amp, so far I have only used it with a blues jr but tonight I will plug it into my 59 Bassman RI also set clean usually there is a touch of grit but I still consider it a clean tone. according to Fulltone you can run this into a distorted amp I'm assuming an amp with mild break up would still be fine. |

I LOVE my DP-1 with my 59 Bassman LTD -- great EJ tones!

Anyone remember the folly when the DP was coming out? The long wait times and utter anticipation in late 2001? It was psychotic! Not a bad box, actually, but I favored the DDSS, except the DP box is really small with the flip-top battery compartment. Whycan't we get everything in one? Is there no perfect pedal out there?

I remember the DP hype. It was the "magic Eric Johnson violin tone in a box."
It's been funny to watch the flavors of the month through the years. A few that jump out at me . . . The first I remember was the MJM London Fuzz which I still think is a great box, but you would have thought that it had transformed fuzz tones forever ! Then the Dino Fuzz was the last word in fuzz for a while there. I fell for the Maxon AD80 Analog Delay hype . . . but then sold it at a nice profit (you know those analog chips are gonna be gone forever!) I wonder if everyone will still be on the TIM bandwagon a couple of years from now. _______________ Soli Deo Gloria |

Well I got to test this FD2/DP-1 combo out with the band tonight and it cut really nice also I used it with my 59 Bassman RI and it sounded way better than expected.
This may become a permanent fixture on my board i loved the way I was able to just use my volume knob to get different shades of OD/distortion. Volume Full up I had classic Metal tones with thick lead tone! My Blues Junior was good with this pedal combo but the Bassman RI it smokes very Raw and rich sounding. I will try this out some more to see if I like doing the pedal stack but so far so good! Just for the record my Guitar is a PRS McCarty! This message has been edited. Last edited by: J.LaGrassa, |

quote: It's interesting -- my DP-1 is dated 1-03 on the outside, but the board is dated 12-02 and the IC is not round. So I guess I've got the pre-update version. However, I love the sound of my pedal and would not even think of upgrading. I would love to try the upgraded version just to see if it would be worth having 2 DP-1 pedals. My settings are: Vol - Noon Dist - Full Res - 4 o'clock Mid - 11 o'clock Highs - 11 o'clock Sat - Full Trimmers at factory settings What are your settings? I find that it's BEST with a "just beginning to break-up" Fender. But, I also like it with my GT Solo-75 loaded with EL-34 power tubes. Though that amp isn't really NMV 'Marshally', it's got a ton of headroom so that when it's cooking there's still room to get louder and more OD'd with the DP. I set it different for every situation but usually keep the 'saturation' mini-pot almost all the way down and the 'resonance' all the up. For the record, I've loved this pedal since it first came out. I think it's one of the best OD's available primarily because of how "muscular" it is in a gig situation. It's the only OD I own that I HAVEN'T wished for more volume or gain from it - 'live' that is.
