I know everybody has their idea of what order pedals should go, let's here what you think worgs best!

After playing for over 45 years, including many years of session work, I have come to use my pedals in the following order, BUT please remember that NOTHING IS WRONG, AND EVERYTHING IS RIGHT when it comes to the pedal order. Also, some amps will respond differently to different pedal order, so experiment to get your tone to suit yourself. It's your call. Out of the guitar and into the wireless receiver first in line(assuming one has one), out of the wireless receiver into a tuner, if I have one on the pedalboard, compressor, graphic EQ, (then, depending on whether you like your wah wah before, OR after distortion)wah wah, distortion pedals, harmonizer, volume pedal(Goodrich Volume pedals are all I use) into the amp input. (Since I use more then one overdrive/distortion pedal, I try to place my wah between distortion pedals so that I have a choice...ususally I have a Sigmeund tube overdrive before the wah and any solid state distortion pedals after the wah)[This is just what my ears hear and how I like it] In the effects loop goes noise suppressor, chorus/flanger/tremolo/phasor/(etc.)in any order you want, digital delays, analog delays, reverbs,and back to the effects return in that order. (I have a Line 6 MM4 and 2 Line 6 DL4's in that order which I use).
My amps are strickly Marshall 6101's and a 2150(Super Lead 1x12). All amps have been blueprinted for matched components both pre-amp, and power amp sections, and tweaked to get the most tone possible from the amps. Griblin Engineering in San Rafael, Ca. [(1-800)605-2677]is who I use for balancing the internal components and bullet-proofing the amps for road-worthiness. If I want the circuit modified slightly to enhance the flexibility of my amps, I use Voodoo Amps in Ithaca, NY. Ask for Trace. They help to "clarify the tone" so it is a bit more 3-D sounding, opening up the amp's tone so that it breathes a bit more.
My 2150 does not have an effects loop, so I have to try other things to use my effects with that amp. I go out of the wireless into the 1st input of channel 1. I then take a chord out of channel one, second input, into the effects, using the same order as I would on top of the page, but I also go through the modulation and delay effects before coming back into input 1, channel 2 of the amp. All pedals must be adjusted downwards and judicious use of all controls must be practiced in order to get the whole thing to sound good.
I would like to hear what others have to say as well as I find that no one knows a one best way to achieve tone. Hope this helps you out.

Right now, on my big pedal board setup, I'm going:

guitar->compressor->wah->fuzz(silicon fuzz with octave option)->overdrive(OD-808)->distortion(Rat)->univibe->phaser->chorus/flange combo pedal->delay(with stereo outputs).

One of the delay's outputs goes into a tremelo pedal and then the amp, the other dead ends into my tuner, or (at home only - too much trouble otherwise) continues on through the tuner to amp #2 for ((STEREO)) fun.

Whew - that's a lot of pedals! I occasionally mess with the order somewhat, but that's basically it. Both ways are okay, but I've decided I like wah before distortion. I like it before the compressor too, but my wah is a little too noisey for that, so the compressor goes first (which works out fine). The one thing I'd like to add is an a/b box right after the guitar, with one send going dead end into my tuner, the other send going through my pedals. I'll probably put my trem back before the delay, I haven't made up my mind on that one yet though. No effects loops on the amps I have right now, but most people use them pretty much like plink said.

My intermediate size set up would usually be something like: compressor->wah->overdrive->phaser (or flanger)->delay->amp.

My chain goes as follows:

wah>ts9>fulldrive>volume>delay>phase>tremolo>chorus

But it seems to break up easily, any suggestions?

this is a great topic. does anyone else use two delays? i have an akai headrush and an electro-harmonix deluxe memory man. where would y'all recommend putting those in the chain along with an overdrive, wah and chorus?

when i use two delays i can run them in three ways. first and easiest is to run them in series (one after the next) so that the delays are being delayed again. this gives me a cool double delay when i set one for long and the next for short, or visa versa. second is parallel. i run the delay output of the first delay straight into the first input on my amp and them take the dry output and send it to the input of the second delay. i then run the delay output of this delay into the second input of my amp. this method allows me to set the times at whatever i want for a more rhythmic delay. i find this one more usable than the first because the sound isn't as jumbled. last is stereo. same as the second method but using two different amps. total ambient bliss.

does anyone put their delay at the end of their chain?

i almost always put my delay at the end of my chain. sometimes i put a wah or a filter after. try this for a rising or falling delay sound. for the most effective delay sound though, i mic my amp and place my delay after the mic pre or in one of my mixer's loops. this makes my amp sound like it is in a larger room. too cool. i do this with a lot of effects (reverb, phase, flange, any other time based effects really) rather than run them straight into my amp. EXPERIMENT! HAVE FUN WITH YER TOYZ!

For me it's;

Wah->WhammyII->Ibanez Vol/Pan->preamp->amp

I use the Ibanez Vol/Pan to pan between the DRY and the WET output of the whammy, wich gives me more control over its sound.

I throw a multi fx in the preamp loop

Also I can put comp, eq between wah and whammy from time to time. I also play with tremolo, flanger either between wha and whammy II or in the preamp fx loop... depending on situation. But these are temporary things I add to my setup from time to time.

That's my basic way of using them.

I would say the best is to just experiment because it's going to be different with each setup. I would put the delay at the end.
