i sold a Boss DD-2 to someone. it worked perfectly when i shipped it. the guy got it and told me it's dead on arrival. he says the PSA doesn't work, battery doesn't work, nothing!

i'm not sure what to do here. i've never sold a bunk pedal before and it was working just before shipping. the item was well packed and everything.

should i just take it back and refund him? or take it back and have a look myself before refunding him?

i told him that maybe the cables he's using may not be plugging in well, but i'm not sure what the problem could be [other than the obvious]

Alot this comes down to when you consider the sale 'done'.....

Say if Im buying a thing from you, and you get my money then ship it to me....

I dont consider it a sale until I have what I paid for in my hands - in this case, a working pedal. I wouldnt have sent you money for a broken pedal...

If the pedal broke in shipment , then thats between the seller and the shipper... the buyer never recieved what they paid for.....a working pedal

Its funny that sellers ask buyers to pay for insurance, in reality the seller is making a deal with the shipper.... you could argue postage the same way......

BUT you also have the posibility of sabotage and buyers remorse...

SO assuming your just a person and not a store, you could offer a refund when you get it back, if it was not misused...(wire clipped inside)....or have it fixed and send it back to them.....lots of possibilities...

Is he aware that the DD-2 has a "delay" in powering up? The earlier digital effects from Boss have this feature. What it means is that, once you have a battery or power supply connected and have connected a cord to the input jack, it takes 5-10 seconds before you can engage the effect. This could be the problem, and if so, it's not a problem at all!

Hope this helps!

By law you entered into a contract. If the contract was for a working pedal and a working pedal is not what he received. Whether he took out insurance or not he needs either money back or a working pedal. I felt like I got burned with the same situation. I was headed to Korea and about a half a dozen people wanted me to pick up a guitar for them, so I did. At their request I sent them back military postal service (free and no insurance), two of the guitars disappeared in the mail and according to base legal I entered in to the contract I had to produce either guitars or money. $600 out of my pocket...no good deed goes unpunished.

I never ship uninsured because there are
so many people out there trying to commit
fraud. It out of control and it is costing
all of us millions in premiums. I would make him
send the pedal back before I refunded him anything.

I had a pedal that I sold and weeks later the kid said it was borken and sent it back to me. I got it and it was fine, but to avoid the fricking hassle, as the kid wasn't replying to emails and could leave me neg feedback, just cuz he's an idiot, so I refunded him the money. I jsut didn't think it was worth the hassle for the relatively small amount of money.

Insurance- I never do that, mostly because I've heard it's even more of a nightmare to collect on that stuff - yo gotta fill out tons of forms and their inspectors have to check it out, etc...

ya, i told him to send it back. after i or my techie look at it and see that it's definitely not working, that i'll refund him his money.

he said that he played with the trim pots so that may play into things too.

but if it's acting funny, i'll refund him. i just wanna make sure the i get the pedal back and that he didn't mess with stuff that caused it to break.

i guess there's a good reason why sellers have "item sold as-is" in their auction. Roll Eyes

i wish there was a way around this. i could just send it back and let him know there is nothing wrong with it...or i could just refund, relist, and forget about it.

something in me wants to do the former, but then the voice of reason says "don't mess with negative feedback, just send the money back to him." of course, i wonder if others would refund me if i complained about a perfectly working product.

it's definitely a toss-up, but in these situations, i just bite the bullet and refund/take the item back. my good feedback is worth more then fucking around with a weenie.

don't forget to contact Ebay and/or PayPal about crediting/refunding the fees you incurred with your deadbeat.

yes, the buyer can place feedback, but in my experience in these cases, will either choose not to leave any feedback, and/or will leave positive feedback. however, i've usually found it to be the former, not the latter. plus the seller then has the opportunity to counter-reply which is a good way of setting a story straight. particularly useful when some one complains.

most probably this guy knows the pedal was good and is just a weenie. give these guys their money back and they usually go away. this has only happened to me a few times in the many years i've been on ebay, but i still keep a weenie list in case they bid on one of my items again.

I tell ya...

As a pedal seller every so often, I can just tell who's gonna be a pain and who's gonna be cool.

It's not like a 1960's or 70's pedal costing fiddy bucks is gonna be as good as a new Klon, but I swear, the ignorance and..well, ludicrous expectations of some folks is silly. "Your 70's Big Muff is kinda noisy and I cant dial in Vai with it. I want my money back." Dude, EVERY 70's BM is noisy! AND I TOLD YOU THAT!!! WTF??..

the other thing that bugs me is demanding the original box! "No, I bought it used. It didn't have the box. No, I dont know where the original box is." or "Well, DUDE, it's a two knob chorus pedal, but no, I don't have the original manual."

"How many cables should I include on this $38 pedal to keep you from bothering me?"

I have items I just wont sell cause I know I'm gonna get Mister Banana Head as the buyer...I am cursed! Mad
