I was thinking the same thing, Donner. Looks like every Samick and Washburn "AAAAAAAAAAAAA quilt top" that has come thru our shop. That quilt looks about as deep as the Anna Nicole Show.

For the $$ he probably paid for all that work, he could have saved up a few more $$ and got a used Gibson.

I agree that re-branding a guitar is a rather cheesy thing to do. Who are you fooling? The audience doesn't care what gear you use. They care more about the quality of the vocals.

I would also add that the Agile Gibson copies are rather popular on one of the other guitar forums. Supposedly they really are quite good instruments and you can't argue with the price. The Agile webiste claims that the finish is not a photoflame. As one non-guitar player put it, "A rose by any other name..."

Regards,

Harris

I wonder what happens when a Gibson employee sees that...

I'll have to check out the Agile website. If they are as good as your saying Harris, I hope they have a reasonable priced hollow body. I love hollow bodies for playing blues but can't afford one. I had an Epi Sheraton II and the pickups were bad. Took it back to Sam Ass twice and they still couldn't fix it and offered me a new one. I said forget it and am happy I did because shortly after I picked up a used "mint" Copper 52 Tele Reisue for only $550. with case and all the extras! Smile I do have a Harmony "Rocket" that I sometimes bring out to blues jams but it's a tough guitar to play. Bought that for $75. and is also in great shape! Big Grin

this reminds me of the Tele I built myself. I made a headstock decal with an altered Fender font that said "Fendre" and a model of "Less Paul, More John"

I also had a cheap Rickenbacker copy that I made a couple of name plates for saying things like "Rickenfaker" "Rickenbroken" "Redenbacher"

Trowerfan,

I really don't know if the Agile guitars are any good. I have never played one, nor even seen one. I'm merely telling you what I've read on the internet -- and we all know that such information can be unreliable. On another forum, I have read comments from other people and those people generally give the guitars high marks for value.

Regards,

Harris

I am not an expert on Gibson Les Pauls at all, so I cannot compare them to the Gibsons except for the ones Ive dinky dinky'd on for a bit...SO..

Ive had the agile for about 3 months now. it remains unmodded, tho I would love to drop some Burstbuckers into it like I did my 335 clone (or better yet, some Timbuckers, but that's another tale..)

the agile is not as good as the gibson's. not even an argument. it is as good as alot of the upper Epis Ive demo'd at GC...

the US seller, www.rondomusic.com is a guy named Kurt who's got a direct line into this Korean maker. He claims the tops are canadian maple, not photoglaze. someone at LPF took one apart and they were a maple veneer top (it was a 2 year old LP2000) they are like 3 peice mahogany construct with varying maple thicknesses depending on the model (LP2000 thinner, LP2800 thicker, etc) the lp2800 has hand filled/filed fretboard, the lesser models are machined.

for 300 bucks, they seem fucking great. they may be comparable to a higher dean EVO LP copy?(not the hardtail!)
they are now releasing some hollowbodies. an L5S clone (yeah, imagine that) and what looks like a 335 knockoff. I am considering getting the jazzier HB, but heck, I have two HB's already...what I could enjoy is that swamp ash strat they got there...priced to move!

problem with upgrading these puppies is that you'll never recoup it on resale. you'll have to reinstall the old stuff, which aint too much of a problem....but a Barden or Fralin loaded Agile strat isn't going to get big dollars on the resale, but it would probably sound great up on stage.

agile stuff is really alot better than the usual, traditional knock off stuff (tho I think even that stuff is getting better)...the Ibanez ar75T articore HB looks cool, seems well made and is selling used for 300 bucks! I think it comes with SD's too.. Smile..but I haven't demo'd it yet Frown
