I saw them a few years ago in a small theater in Somerville, Mass (good acoustics), and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. I liked how they broke the show up by playing 25 mins. of Crimson stuff, then 25 mins. of Adrian Belew playing acoustic and singing solo, and repeated that a few times. Belew also played drums on some songs.

Their show was nothing short of humbling.

I admit to being a really big fan, particularly of Fripp, but my experience seeing them (ToaPP tour) was really disappointing. The only piece that they stretched out on was 'Requiem'- the rest sounded far too similar to the recorded versions for my liking. And I just cannot stand the sound of guitar synths.

Considering the players, I should have loved it. I thought Belew's playing w/ Bowie, Zappa, Talking Heads was really stellar, Levin was always great on the Peter Gabriel discs, and Bruford, well..... he's a bloody magician. Last but not least, Uncle Bobby has probably been my biggest influence (the solo on 'St Elmo's Fire'is just amazing, among many others), but ultimately it sounded like a bunch of session guys, and not a band. Different strokes, I suppose.

Nowadays, there's been a cold, sterile sound to their recordings that leaves me depressed, and wishing they'd ditch the technology in favor of some decent tube amps and a handful of good pedals.

I dunno- maybe my taste has just changed.

I was at the first Philly show and it was very good (w/great sound). I think that with Tony onboard, they are a bit 'less regimented' and they really seemed to enjoy playing. Some of their past shows have come off very sterile sounding but this was a very welcome change. The downside for me was the lack of new material but I got over it.

Yea Tony rocked! The intro to Elephant Talk ooo man! I've been lucky to see them in a bunch of different places, I was floored when they did the Power to Believe at Town Hall in nyc and the recent shows had a energized vibe with a lot of interplay, eagerly awaiting anything they do next!

PS an gear-wise looks like lotsa new toyz, tony's got all the tonebone stuff, adrians got that new fly oh my and all the guitars sound really great the fuzz tones cannot be synthesized!!, the drums are 99% acoustic and theres like 50 of em there...sign me up for the stage tour

Haven't heard anything from these guys, since THRAK. Really liked that disc. Maybe they'll play somewhere near me. KC is one of the classic bands that I have never seen live.
