I'm interested in what type Chorus effects pedals sound the best? Digital or Analog? Do certain name brands chorus effects sound better than others? Just looking for input, I listened to a Soundwave of a couple but you can only tell so much from that? Thanks Smile

Rack digital choruses' like Lexicon and T.C.electronics sound great...because they have the bit "strength" to approach that analog "warmth".As pedals go,I'm into analog because they seem to blend better with the band or track. My favorites are: Fulltone ChoralFlange,Ibanez CS-9,Boss CE-2.The Ibanez and Boss aren't made anymore but can still be found pretty cheap. The Fulltone is about $320.00 but WELL WORTH THE MONEY.

As Klasaine said, I'd Lexicon are great... Eventide also if you ask me, don't know about TC's haven't really tried them for that.

On the pedal format... my PERSONAL favorite is the Digitech Whammy II when used in its detune mode... it's such a tick chorus sound, anyway that's me and that's what I reach for first in need of chorus sound for guitars or bass.

I also heard good words about the CS-9 and BC-9 chorus from Ibanez, same for the fulltone but I never tried those myself.

For what it's worth I remember playing through a friend's pink peavey pedal in the late 80's and it was a good chorus especially for the price. They must be available for cheap used as they're not YET collector's item or considered vintage.

Voodoo labs also has a nice chorus pedal, if you like the type of sound of an all analog chorus.

Hope this helps Wink

I recently paid $55 for a Boss CE-2, Japanese made early 80's analog chorus pedal. I really like it. I tried an Ibanez CS-9 and that was probably as good and a bit more expensive.

I've owned:

original tc scf
Boss CE-1
Boss CE-2 (Japan)
Rocktron Tsunami
Digitech Whammy II
ElectroHarmonics small clone
Quadraverb GT
Boss SE-50
Intellifex
Replifex

And I kept the small clone for a pedal chorus and the Intellifex and Replifex for rack chorus.

The small clone is funky. Good sparkle on the high end, and pretty deep. The CE-2 is also great, but thicker and more of the analog feel.

The Int. has a super clean modern sparkle, and the Repli. has a great Boss CE chorus copy.

The ultimate chorus has to be the tc 1210 or the tc 2290. I would also like to use the choralflange.

The best chorus pedal has to be the Way Huge Blue Hippo Chorus. I have yet to find one, but I have tried them and they are the best. All analog pretties. Second best is the EH small clone, but have it true bypassed or else you will suffer.

I have a Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble
and i did have a Marshall Supervibe
and i noticed about both of them that when you turn it on it increases the volume. I don't know if it's suppost to do that or not but i don't like it too much.
But other than that the CE-5 has a wider range of chorus that the Marshall.

i like chorus sounds. i have owned and used:
boss ce 1 - sold
boss ce 2 - sold
boss dc 2
boss dc 3 - sold
ibanez cs 9
ibanez bc 9
t.c. scf 80's
t.c. scf 90's
dialtone chorus candy
analogman clone w/switch
analogman clone two knob - sold
fulltone choralflange - sold
fulltone stereo dejavibe
mjm sixties vibe
arion sch - sold
dynacord cls 222

for a mono box i'll grab the analogman clone 95% of the time. for a brighter tone the dialtone works well.
stereo it's the dynacord or the boss dc 2.
nothing is really better than the others, it's just what sounds best to me on a particular day.
good luck in the search. seeking out new sounds is half the fun!
