I read a post of yours on the Wildegate bbs the other day, and I was wondering how you like the L500s in your (les paul was it?). What kind of clean tones do they get? Are they wood-dependent or more thrashy? Reason I ask is cuz I am building a guitar that they could go in, but it's replacing a much loved strat. If I could get great clean tones on par with said strat (now gone), that would be great. Even if it's different, I need good clean for this one. Thanks for your help!

Sorry to jump in here but I had a MM Axis Sport (2 x humbuckers) and I replaced the Dimarzio's with BL L500 xl and l. The guitar still sounded like the same guitar but was a little crisper and clearer. I did not like the Dimarzio's, thought they were muddy. I ended up selling the guitar because it was not the sound I wanted and I needed money for other things. Would have kept it if I did not need the cash, nice guitars.

You may want to look into the q filter with the 500xl as it can reduce the inductance of the pup and there are probably other things that can be done that others may post about.

Hi Nathan, My guitar is a PRS McCarty and I had the L500-XL in the Bridge and the L500-R in the neck. The Cleans on those pups are pretty good especially if you split the coils BUT they can be almost to bright depending on the guitar and amp! they can be kind of strat sounding
I happen to be in a pickup changing mode actually just the other day I pulled the L500's and put in a pair of PRS Dragon II pups which do work out better in taming the highs on the McCarty.

In my Fat Strat Texas Special i just pulled all the stock pups in it and Installed a pair of L280-S in the Neck and middle and a L500-L in the Bridge with the Q filter and again the cleans on that setup is very good. This guitar is Alder so it isnt as bright as the McCarty, The L500-L works with a 250k or 500k pot Sounds great with high gain as well.

A big thanks to both of you! I actually have the pickups, and 2 Q-filters as well, but it's going to be ph, three months before this guitar is finished. I wanted to get the opinion(s) of people who I know know tone, you know? It's alder with hard ash cap, and a mahogany/ebony neck. Hopefully this will tame the highs. I guess I'll change for 250K if 500K is too bright. Thanks again!
