Man, I was nervous about tonight's gig. Our band hasn't been very steady with personnel lately and our keyboard player couldn't make the gig tonight...he sings most of our tunes.

We called up an old friend guitar player to sit in and he ended up calling up lots of old rock tunes to play. It was fun...my tone was starting to open up as the night progressed.

We opened our last set with Powderfinger. Probably one of my top five all-time fave rock tunes. Damn, the two of us had some awesome rock din going on...very Neil approved tones. The Rt.66, she really shined and I used the Eternity with the LTD kicked in for boost during a solo. Wow...I haven't had that much fun playing a song in a long time.

We mostly play lots of R&B, Soul, Blues, Funk...but playing these old rock tunes, especially Powderfinger, was a very nice breath of fresh air.

Yeah I love that song too, always takes me back....Nothing like Powderfinger to make you feel Young again Wink

Thats one of my sons favorties too and he was asking me about the words and tthere meaning which was an interesting conversation......

Ive recently come back to that kind of tone thru Neil and Jayhawks etc.. type stuff - thats what I played in my Younger days and it feels good to do singer songwriter stuff again and in a Rock context.......

Glad you hit the magic tone B-man!!

Well, the grass is always greener on the other side, ain't it?! I love the material my bands do, but I often wish I could find a funky R&B thing on the side, like what you do...

Neil's stuff is just so raw & visceral, & makes great vehicles for down 'n' dirty jams. My rock band has covered him for years - like a Hurricane, Cortez the Killer, Cowgirl in the Sand, etc.... we usually don't do many covers until late in the evening... but just for grins, we opened a show with Down by the River a few months back. Our bass dude straps on a goldtop Les Paul & turns over the bass chores to the front guy... when we do that tune it goes on for a half hour or more... wanking & noodling until we run out of ideas... big greasy nasty fun!

Hey C , Next time you guys do River,,,,

The words to 'Green Acres' fit in the verses of River, keep the chorus the same except - Down by Green Acres - I shot my Baby........

You can alternate voices to, even funnier to do a Neil voice on one chorus and Bob Dylan on the answering chorus...

this is hilarious for last set...... Wink

(Of course Green acres fits over Purple Haze too...)

one thing that always fascinated me is the 2
neil youngs...by himself & w/ crazy horse.his
solo stuff can be hit or miss, great or dreadful
(trans,his rockabilly lp,blues lp...).& even
though i'm not a big acoustic fan,he has written
some great things. but, when he gets together
with the other 3 members of crazy horse-they are
as powerful as a force of nature.what a great
band!& what a sound.i read an interview once where young said he can only play like that w/those guys. & i never heard a crazy horse lp
that wasn't @ least real good.just my thoughts
& opinion.

Howdy!

I gotta say, Neil was pretty stellar with Pearl Jam serving as his backing band on the "Mirror Ball" album.

Pretty cool stuff.
