I finally got around to taking that pic of my Carmen Ghia with the standby: In this pic the switch on the left is the power switch (I moved it closer to the lamp). The switch on the right is the standby (in the original position of the power switch). The red/yellow banded wire that goes to the right side of the standby switch originally went to the grounding post. I simply attached it to one side of the standby switch (SPST). The other side is the new white wire that goes to the grounding post. I chose to move the power switch as I find it's human nature (at least mine) to reach for the switch closest to the lamp assuming it's the power switch. You can also see that I removed the blanket, er conjunctive filter, off of the output tubes. Hope this helps Bob Is it you or the equipment? |

Thanks for posting that picture, Bob - that helps me alot! I think I could handle this mod myself but I am basically a chicken when it comes to modding my gear so I am taking it to my amp tech to have him install the standby for me. I think I'd rather pay and have the peace of mind that comes with that! I am taking your picture along for reference so thanks again!

Again, thanks much, Bob. My switches should arrive any day now...
Here's a thought: My Ghia has the detachable AC cord, mounted in the space to the left of the cord in your pic. Where the non-detachable cord was, there's still a hole, with a plastic plug. This looks like the perfect place to mount another heavy-duty switch to enable or disable the conjunctive filter -- solder the cap to one side of the switch, the resistor to the other, and make or break the connection. |

quote: Hmmm... Interesting idea. I'm no amp designer, but then I don't think I'd want a switch at this point in the circuit. You are right accross the output tubes and output transformer, I'd be concerned that this might cause unwanted noise. But then again it might be interesting. Would the switch need to be isolated from the chassis, or would this matter? Is it you or the equipment? |

I dunno, I'm strictly an amateur... the poles of the switch would be isolated from the chassis, just like a standby... I was just brainstorming -- if it's not healthy for the amp in any way, then it's a no-go. Anyone have any expert advice?
