Hey all, has anyone tried these speakers??? how do they compare with the Celestion Alnico Blues? i've seen the GP article, but i wanna know what you guys think??? also, would a Celestion Blue blow out with a Maz Jr18 watt head?? i know the speaker is 15 watts, but would cranking the 18 watter really do any damage???
thanks.

Hi,
Yes I've used these for awhile now, and they are very similar to the Blues, but are a tad warmer overall. Get the 12BT if you want the same sound as the Blues. BT is the same short 15 watt voicecoil version. I actually prefer the C12B because I can get the snap and sparkle from the ceramic magnet, and still get 30-40 watts of power handling in one speaker.
If you run the Maz flat out you will be pushing the limits of the CBlue. That Maz can probably put out close to 30 watts if maxed out.
Whatever speaker you try ... if you don't like it you will be able to resell it for very little loss. That is unless you fry one first =^)
Good luck. Dennis E.

I have a ceramic magnet version of the Blue Dog 12 in my tweed Deluxe, & that's the best speaker I've had in there. I've heard that the Celestion AlNiCo Blue 15 watt speaker would sound better, but also would cost 4 to 5 times as much money. I also hear that they can't handle very much more than the 15 watts they're rated at. I get the impression that a 4 x 12" cab with the 15 watt AlNiCo Blue Celestions would sound great with a 40 to 50 watt head. The Webers have a little higher power rating in general.

I have been using a blue dog alnico for 6 months in a 60 watt tube amp (seymour duncan) and it sounds wonderful! No problem handling the power. I highly recommend this speaker. It gets better and better as it breaks in also.

I have the C12BT in my Blues Jr. I really noticed an improvement over the stock eminence. The stock had a tendency to fart out. This stays tight and punchy and does have some great chime to it. Take note that the P12 is VERY deep and many have to take the mag cover off to fit in their amp - if it's a small combo like the BJ

I use a 2x12 w/ my twin with 2 alnico versions of this speaker in it. Sounds superb. Very warm. Warmest speaker I've ever heard.
