Setup: LP equipped with Wagner Darkbursts pups...

'03 Les Paul Std. => Analogman TS9 => Barber DDSS => BJF Baby Pink Booster => '67 Super Reverb

I've been borrowing my friends DDSS now for a few months and really like the pedal, but I've been using it in an uncharacteristic way. As a light dirty boost only with the TS-9DX engaged.

I run my AM TS-9DX with the drive about 11:00. When soloing or with heavier rhythm work, I have been kicking on the DDSS with the gain just above zero. It slightly thickens a lifts the tone, BUT it has too much compression for me.

Do you guys think a Honey Bee would be a good fit here? I've heard the Honey Bee sound clips and like them. But most sound clips out there are not humbuckers...

Thanks for the insight!

based on your description of how you're using the DDSS to give your TS a kick, then i'd say yes, the Honey Bee would add a nice flavor and "gritty sweetness" to your sound. i've found that a lot depends on where you have the Nature knob set.

at the full counter clockwise position, there is a noticable amount of grind and pump, and the sound truly emulates a very small amp being pushed. as you move the knob clockwise, the sound becomes more open and somewhat thinner, but never to the point where it's too bright. and at all settings, the pedal retains the tone it was voiced for.

i'm using it following my PPF and before a Timmy, and kick it in when i want more character to my sound and oomph. with my P90 guitars the sound is full and crunchy, and with the humbucking-equipped guitars i have the sound becomes fuller and somewhat warmer, but with a grit added to it that lets the tone cut through.

all in all, i really like this pedal, and especially when used stacked, the pallette of tones/sounds you can get are very varied.

I would be placing it most likely after the TS-9. How pronounced is the EQ voice? I'm hoping it's fairly flat..

THe honey bee is hard to describe. It doesn't have a mid-boost like a ts9. To my ears, if you crank the nature counter-clockwise, it brings out the high and low ends (and gets very cool when cranked all the way, really gnarly but in a totally awesome way), clockwise, it flattens it out (more voxy kinda). I've run a ts9 type into it, and it sounds pretty cool, although I run a lovepedal balance into it for higher gain. It has less compression than a ts9. But really the honey bee takes anything on the light to med overdrive pretty well. It's a sweetening pot for your amp.
