I'm currently trying to build my ideal rig. Now as per my previous post I will be upgrading my cabling. Also I would like to sort out the noise that comes out when I kick the drive in. What it is, is that I use a DS1-Ultra in conjunction with my amps distortion as an overdrive. Sounds good except for the unwanted noise. So I figure the next thing to get is a noise supressor (by the way I dont go mad on the drive settings;o)). Just wondering what you guys would recommend? Thanks.

If you are using single coil pickups the best noise suppressor you can get are Kinman noiseless pu's...maybe not the answer you're looking for but they are the only thing I've run accross in my experience that work without affecting your base tone too much...

Noise suppressors are gates and will rob highs from your clean tone. IMO, use less gain, or live with it, which is what I do.
I you were to make a loop with a NS2 or Smart Gate after the dirt box and then leave both on and activate them with a TBP switch, then that would be cool, and you'd need one for each dirt pedal. OR you could turn off the gate with the dirt boxes. So then choices are the HUSH, Boss NS2, MXR Smart Gate. The latter 2 I thought of getting. "Poor soul, he was just too high strung... I'm afraid the strain was more than he could bear." |

Ibanez Noise Buster is another noise suppressor you could consider...

I've never really warmed up to even the best sounding noiseless pups, such as Kinmans. The best compromise for me has been true singles plus the BOSS NS-2. I'm usually the lone ranger on this, but I swear by that cheap little box, & have used it for every electric guitar gig I've done since it hit the market. It does not screw the high end like the HUSH units, & it doesn't chirp & chatter like most gates I've played. With effect engaged it bumps the mids ever so slightly (a very negligible difference in my opinion). In the last quarter of the threshold knob's travel, output volume starts to be attenuated, but I've never needed to turn it up that high. I do have to work a bit harder to coax feedback from the guitar when using the NS-2, but it's not a struggle. One thing I really like about the BOSS is the loop, meaning that non-noisy boxes, such as time-based effects, can operate outside of its effect. It also has a mute function & a courtesy 9V power jack. I play several rooms with lousy wiring, so the pros far outweigh the cons for me, & it's a no-brainer. Especially when I split the bill with another band & hear the 60 cycle hum tsunami when the gainer pedals are kicked in.
Couple of others to look at - http://www.isptechnologies.com/header.php?action=Products&&prodid=8 http://www.musictoyz.com/guitar/pedals/martin.php I've played neither. I've not considered them mostly due to the fact that they don't contain a loop. ________________ Tone is in the feet. |
