Thinking about Ted's "Let's Build Guitars" thread it occured to me that we often see pedals, pedalboards and amp pix but few guitar pix. So, what are you playing?

Where's yours big boy? You can't start a "show me" thread and not post a pic of your own.

Since I've recently figured out how to do the 'picture' thing ... and I'm not working tonight ...
This is one of my faves. A "Gilbert". My tech built it for me - Gil Chavez. He does a maybe a dozen or so guitars every year for guys out here. (He's got a big repair business) Filtertron, Lollar BF, Duncan sp42. Allparts hrdwr. |

Cartoon and signature: Ed "Big Daddy" Roth (Rat Fink).
Other than that it's an '87 that's been stripped w/Lollar Blondes ...

My main go to guitars for now are the ObG Flametop and the Greco Goldtop in the top pic. (The one to the far left is not mine) I also have a 94 Fender Amer Standard Strat, Washburn A20, an Alvarez MD90C and an older Blueridge acoustic not pictured. I almost forgot I have a mid 80's Fender Japan P-Bass

Here's my main squeeze:
Early 80s 57 US Vintage RI. Alder body, Maple Fretboard. Best Stratocaster I have ever played. Lucky to have her. My "Parts" Soloist. 2 X Pearly Gates, Alder body, Ebony on Maple Neck. Warm and Powerful. The "Pepe Le Peux" signature model! My latest project. A custom painted Stratocaster style. Awaiting Lollar Tweeds, a Clear Pickguard, and a custom shaped Neck. I think it's gonna be sweet! Back side of same project: I'll try to get some pix of my acoustic, too. Gotta say it; Those 2 "Teles" you guys posted, look really nice! I dig the "Scream". And that "Gilbert" looks like something I'd like to play. Is that a Filtertron in the neck position? |

I don't have pictures of most of my guitars, I'll have to take some. But in the meantime, here's my Nash '58 Strat, which is my main guitar.
And this is what is shipping on Monday from Nashville. My Freakin' Danocaster. Will it be my new number one? Super lightweight swamp ash, Don Mare pickups, brass saddles, 9.5" radius neck.

Okay I'm going least cool to coolest (imo) here:
First, my main backup axe live, a London City Comet MK1. Yes, it's cheap, but for 250 Euro's it's a better player than most other guitars I've tried in any price range. Electronics aren't perfect (yet) but I'll work on that. I like the tone of tele's, though I usually try and take it a bit more in the lower mids than the mids that tele's tend to bump in. Great clean tones, sounds a bit Buckley-esque at times. Now for bass duties I use my trusty CIJ Marcus Miller Jazz Bass. It's got the thumpy modern sound due to the on-board pre-amp and it's got the classic sound due to the knob to turn the pre off I bought this archtop for my studies at the conservatory. Again, dodgy electronics but this thing just plays amazing! Wide neck takes some getting used to, but any archtop has that. It's the Washburn HB15. I'm putting in some other pickup and maybe a piezo bridge to get that low volume guitar lesson sound I love (where you hear both the acoustic and electric sounds). Her name is Sarah, after my darling niece And of course my main axe for over three years now. Almost four even! Never played a better guitar imo, just feels perfect and sounds good. The Reverend Commando GT in Lava Swirl with a maple fingerboard, studio switching (turns on the bridge and neck pickups) and coil tap for the humbucker. I'd love to put in P-rails and lipsticks though, for the sake of more personality in sound (I mean, how killer would that look?). It's a semi-hollow and most of the time sounds a bit ES335-ish in my hands now. Great strummy tone on bridge+middle pup and the neck pup is of course your average good strat tone, but a bit warmer. I use it for jazz as well, kinda gets the Bill Frisell-type of jazz tone but useful nontheless. Tuning stability is great etc etc just perfect. Now I'm still GAS'ing for a nice 3pup Jazzmaster or so.. But there's always another axe out there, eh. |

Woah, CS, dig the archtop! How is that nylon string bass?

Thanks... The archtop is a 1952-53 ES125 and is lovely. The nylon string bass is an Ashbory. THe strings are silicon. THe bass sounds like a cross between a double bass and a fretless electric. There's no treble respose and you cannot really slap tap and all the other bollocks I did as a bassist. The tone is great for recording. I play it in a 3-4 piece instrumental band. It comes into its own with 2 guitars as it gives them space. Most people laugh at it until I play it through a decent amp. They stop laughing then. |
