Just curious. Owned many when I was first starting playing. Wondering what modern boost is based on or copies the old EL LPB-1

Sorry, I don't know, but my LPB-1 is still a useful pedal, with TB and a rehousing.

I don't really advertise it, but I've made a pedal for some friends I called the RPB (Ron's Power Booster). It's basically the LPB-1 but I set the maximum gain as high as I can w/o clipping.

Pro Tone Pedals Thruster, $79. That's almost cheap enough to make me buy one instead of building one myself Smile

Bob at sweetsound mentioned his booster was a LPB-1 clone.

Heck, you can still find the LPB2's (pedal version of the LPB1) for under $75.

I believe the greer sonic boom is a very close clone as well.

Our Sonic Boom is a close clone, as is the Sweetsound and many other clean boosts these days, all wonderful pedals with great full sound! Check out a Sonic Boom if you have a chance, it's got a lifetime warranty on it...so long as I'm around I'll fix it if it messes up!

I can attest that Nick's pedal is a great sound, for sure. It has a touch of girth when you step on it and it really fills the sound out nicely. A very effective booster.

I used an LPB-2 in the mid 70's with a Les Paul and an MXR Distortion + into an Ampeg Gemini II. I seemed to recall that it was a pretty good sound, but I'd love to hear that old rig again to see if it really did sound good!

Thanks Tone Dog...we tweaked the circuit slightly...very slightly to get that girth added...I'm a big guy so I gotta have tone to match ya know?
