I played with one of these for about 4 hours one day. It was a nice fuzz but there are better out there. The backward delay fuzz sound didn't do near the job that a good fuzz and the Line 6 backward delay will do. If you tweak the Line 6, it will sound amazing. I don't use much fuzz anymore but the Line 6 with even a good overdrive will give you a nice Hendrix sound. The Line 6 will color the sound somewhat and it sounds great to me.

The PE EXP is one awesome pedal, in my opinion. It is a clone of the fabled Foxx Tone Machine octave fuzz. The backwards effect on it is kind of tricky, it takes some time invested to learn how to use it. Its not the kind of backwards effect of the Line6 modeler, it's more like a Boss Slow Gear, the attack on notes you play is slower. It makes you sound like your amp is about to blow up.

I'll bet with a Line 6 DM4 and a Line 6 DL4
you could have way more flexibility and way more sounds. But of course, there is that little cost factor. Buying those two pedals would set you back quite a bit like, oh i dunno... $498 befroe sales tax. So if you really want "Hendrix" in a box, sure get the "economy" sized and priced box from P.E. electronics. Great deal for what, 3 sounds you pay $180-200? But, whatever, just MHO. |
