What's your take on the "uni-vibe" units out there? The ones I've heard of are Voodoo Lab Microvibe, Fulltone DejaVibe and DejaVibe 2, Prescription Electronics Vibe Unit, Sweet Sound Ultra Vibe, Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe, MJM Sixties Vibe, Dunlop Rotovibe and UNivibe and Foxrox Provibe/Captain Coconut. Any experienced users with opinions? I am a rhythm player looking for texture, movement, and a variety of sounds, not just a Hendrix or SRV copy.

out of the ones you mentioned, i'd suggest staying away from the dunlops- they're just not in the same league (quality-wise). i personally use the fulltone deja 'vibe 2, but i don't think you can go wrong with any of the other pedals you listed. hopefully you can try a few of them out to help you along. good luck!

I have the DejaVibe 2, too. I also agree with justin. If I had to do my pedal selection over again, I'd get the Captain Coconut 2. Why? Because the soundclips sound great, positive word of mouth, the three-in-one pedal of which I also wanted the two other effects, and the off-center and new picking controlled speed! Plus the modular card where you can tailor the fuzz with your favorite components. Wow.

As you probably know, many consider the Sweetsounds (followed by the PE Vibe Unit which was originally designed by the Sweet Sounds guy) to be the best. I've never heard either one, myself.

The Fulltone DejaVibe2 sounded just like the univibes I've heard on records and I consider the speed control pedal to be essential, so I just went ahead and bought it after demoing it. What can I say - construction is top notch, the speed control pedal is built in and it sounds just like it's supposed to.

I've owned the SweetSound UltraVibe now for about 10 months. It's my favorite modulation pedal. This pedal thickens your sound emensely, I actually prefer it on a clean amp setting. Keep away from that Dunlop crap.

Sweetsound Ultravibe or Fox Captain Coconut 2. Anybody played through both and compared the two units?

I have an early P.E Vibe unit swirly paint job. Love it.Fat, warm sound and very responsive, sounds incredible clean, and very thick and swooshy when distorted.Only drawback is, when I turn it on it is very hard to turn it off.Together with the tone pump and RMC3 pure tone.

I did a A/B test between the RM Voodoo vibe, PE vibe unit and the Fulltone Deja vibe. I kept the PE Vibe Unit and sold the other two. All was very good, but I just prefered the PE.

The RM voodoo sounds good but it takes a while to find a good setting. It has just a little to many buttons for me and once you find a good setting for vibe it will not neccessaryly sound good if you switch to tremolo so it's not really useful as more than one fx. But if your looking for a vibe with adjustability to create other sounds than the standard vibe tones it might be for you.

The PE and the fulltone sounds very similar, but the fulltone has a little more treble roll off and a more chorus than the PE. If I only had tried the fulltone I would have kept it no problem, but the PE just has that little extra so when comparing them side by side I picked the PE.

My vibe unit is one of the older (not swirly) but with a circuit made by Bob Sweet. I have been in contact with Bob and he adviced me to change the volume pot to get rid of the slight volume drop when the pedal was engaged. He was very helpful and I think I would get his sweetsound vibe if I was getting a new one.

I've got the Fulltone's Deja Vibe, that's a great piece of gear, really. Very lushy tones if you want, or modern ones (flick the switch !), does a nice tremolo too at high settings.

The only thing I don't like is the 3PDT switches, they fail quickly. And Mike Fulltone is an asshole, ask him something and he won't reply, etc...a real asshole. It's my only gripe about Fulltone's fx.
But he doesn't really car about customer's thoughts, he knows he'll sell more and more pedals even if he's an asshole.

Complete opposite from Zvex. He's da man for nice and helpful replies. Too bad he doesn't make some phasers or vibe stuff.

the original poster asked about variety and textures--- I actually preferred the Microvibe to the Deja and Sweet side by side--- the Micro was clearer sounding (which some hate), if it had a level control Id still have it, it had a great vibe tone and after backing the intensity off anad the speed up it did a great leslie,,,,but I like more subtle modulations, needing the level control to let some unmodulated tone thru............that said, for variety and texture, definitly consider the Line 6 Modulation modeler, especially if you play in stereo, it sounds good and the panner and vibes choruses and leslies are all over the place and you can tweek them and even get the control pedal for speed and other variations and its not much bigger than the deja and sweet vibe units............

I am a proud owner of the Ultra Vibe, however I have never tried any of the others except the original Deja Vibe, which wasn't too bad at all. If I had a choice I would've got the MJM 60's Vibe because I think all Michaels effects are truly authentic. I got the Ultra Vibe for a good price and it does what I want it to and it sounds wonderful, no complaints!

i used to have a dunlop uni vibe w/foot control and i liked it a lot until it stopped working one day. have recently purchased a voodoo vibe and like it better sound wise but does have an awful lot of 'squat down and tweak' options vs. just click with your foot and go. i don't bother with the trem...did not impress me. (want a wobbulator...) never heard of sweet sound till i read this. would have liked to have checked it out.

I have both the Sweet Sound Ultra Vibe and PE Vibe Unit. i had the ultra vibe first and love it's versatility cause it came with a rocker pedal so you can vary it. probably sounds closest to the original, but it's not as lushy or wet. more dry. whereas the vibe unit is alot wetter. i dunno how else to explain it unless you try different univibey pedals.

I've been a Univibe addict as long as I've been playing guitar, 17 years. I've owned 2 of the originals and most of the clones at one point or another. I recently invested in a Captain Coconut 2 pedal, just because I wanted to check out the "Provibe".
Man - it blew me away. Very thick and juicy, with the ability to zero in on all the Unvibe sounds I've ever heard. It even has an envelope controled speed feature that really sounds nice, and I've never seen that on other univibe effects. I really love this thing, and the other effects, Fuzz Face and Octavia clones, are about the best I've heard. It's an amazing box, I recommend it to anyone whose in the the market for a Univibe. foxroxelectronics.com

I agree. I got a CC-2 and it's great, versatile, ect.
I also got a Sobbat Glowvibe that Dave Fox made true-bypass for me, and IMO, it's the closest to the old Univox Univibes I owned.
