Can the Baby Blue OD get sweet warm sustaining lead tones? The sound bites posted for lead sound pretty harsh for what I want.

Definately! It is actually the warmest, smoothest, overdrive I have ever heard. I have not heard the sound-bytes, but I can't believe how warm and sweet this pedal is.

Cool, thanks.

IMHO the sound bytes don´t show at all what the BBOD is about. If you are looking for a dynamic, sweet sustaining lead tone, look no further

I agree. I find absoltely nothing harsh about this pedal. I played it at a jam with a Clapton Strat and the komet and it kicked ass.

That's cool. When I 1st heard the Baby Blue soundbytes, I was really confused why everyone thought it sounded so great. I didn't get into the sound clips at all. It wasn't because the playing wasn't very good either, but the tones were just really cheap sounding. However, almost everyone I know that's owned loads of OD pedals that owns the Baby Blue loves it and it's typically 1 of their favorites if not their favorite. I'm bummed that I'm going to have to come up with another 200.00 but looks like I might have to! ERIC

Yea, me too. If it sounds as sweet as everyone says, and that seems to be everyone's opinion, I think I better check it out!

I agree that the sound bites sound pretty crappy. Same goes for every Hot Cake sound bit I've ever heard on the Net and yet both pedals get gobs of praise so I guess that tells you just how much you can go by tinny little MP3 files.

Harri really needs to update those clips. They are really cheap sounding but i guess he sells as many as he can´t get from Björn Juhl. The clips are rhythm sounds but it´s a lot stronger at leads.
Best clips I´ve ever heard are the ones for the Komet amp. Period! Amazing tones!
By the way. Just came from the Post office. Picked up the Baby Pink Booster #4 from Harri. He got #2 and Gluke #1. It looks REALLY home-made. Will posts some pics tomorrow.

Johan - look forward to your review of the BPB, I love mine and it works so well with the BB.

Gluke - sounds GOOOD, first impression. Sweet sounding booster. not as much top end "sparkle" as my Z VEX SHO. More like a boost version of the BBOD. Top end is toned down a bit.
Wil try to post some photos of it any minute now. In a hurry!
cheers

Are any of the amps you tried it with class A (Vox AC30, Lexicon Signature 284, etc.)?
And define "happening" - are you looking for OD that pushes the sound close to, or just over into distortion? Or simply a lightly breaking OD (Amp like at almost full level - i.e., Fender evil twin)?
Been thinking about the BBOD. I already have a MJM BD - actually just got it today still evaluating it but I must admit with the London Fuzz it is GREAT, a TS9/808 (analogman), a FD2 (older version), and a Maxon OD808.
Thanks lgk

I find the BBO to be a very subtle overdrive. It has more than I need. I run the OD at between 9:00 and 12:00 ., but I am not into distortion that much. It takes me into Gary Moore territory or perhaps Early Clapton using a strat and a Matchless chieftain. I hope this helps a bit.

I finally ordered an BB, so when it gets here, I will post a comparison with the Green Rhino, Red Llama, and Fulldrive 2 (that's what I have now.)

Stupid question here..... I'm kind new to the booteek pedal thing so don't laugh. Who makes the Baby Blue?

BJF makes the pedal a one man operation located in Sweden. More info at custom-sound.com.

This forum is really cool for learning about very unique &/or esoteric gear. For example, I knew about Jacques' Mercer Box several months before reading about it in Guitar Player. The Baby Blue, Dyna Red, & Baby Pink are all fairly new pedals, & only available through that website based in Finland. One of the guys on this forum purchased Baby Blue OD #100 & was given Baby Pink booster #1 as kind of a thank you gift. That should give you some idea of how few of these things even exist, & a good portion of the owners of these pedals use this forum. You can check them out at http://www.custom-sounds.com
