I just bought a Barber LTD, which I really dig. I was wondering if anyone has tried swapping out the socketed chip and what the result sounded like.

I swapped it with the chip that was in my Mini-Mosferatu (don't know what model, the number's been scratched out.) The difference is pretty slight, but I think that it lowered the mid-bump just a little. I also think the Mos got a little thicker. Course, it might just be swapping voodoo...

Yeah I did a few swaps when the Proto was here, and also in the Launch Pad, if you find the LPs clean TOO clean and sterile you can swap in a 4558....Ive also decided I like the DDSS with a TL072 best, it firms it up a bit ...

it just depends on what you want to change about it....

Well, it's a bit dumb for me to swap out the chip because I really do like the way the stock chip sounds. The mid-hump on the LTD is so slight, it isn't really an issue, but for rhytmn pedals, I like a completely flat response, and if I'm using an overdrive pedal for leads, I like the mid hump. I'm planning to use the LTD for rhytmn primarily.

I'll probably try a few different chips just for the heck of it. Thanks for the info.

Ditto what Adam said,,,,

And Barber as does the Stacked chips (Pringles?) thing, I think he put something on the site about it,,, but you can stack the op-amps and solder them together and stuff for even more variations.... someday Ill get to checking some of the possibilities ...

DonneR,

There are several types of TL072 chips listed. Specifically, which one are you using in your DDSS? I would like to give this a try w/ mine.

If you get some freebies from TI get the Burr-Brown OPA2134.

The Burr Brown seemed smoother and softer a little murky even, which is also useful but the opposite of what I wanted.... Wink
I have a JRC 072BD in there, but yes get them all and try them you may find something you like even better....
