So i think I need an overdrive/fuzz that will give me some grit, some attitude. Everything I have is very, well, pleasant sounding. Part of that is my amps, vox ac30hw and ac15. My main overdrives now are the honey bee for light medium, the lovepedal balance into the HB for more gain. I use skreddy's mayo and a peach fuzz for a fuzz. I guess I'm looking for something edgey and gritty, kinda marshally maybe, with some fuzz thrown in? maybe something tweedy sounding? It doesn't need to be high gain, actually i'd prefer it not be...maybe a tim?

I think a Rat would be more nasaly and hot, but not necessarily 'gritty'. I'm thinking something with a nasty, biting edge is more what he's thinking, like a real hot fuzzface clone. Have you tried anything in a fuzzface? There is a great variety, and the hotter, silicon design is probably the grittiest sounding. Suggestions: PedalworX McFuzz Hot, or Fulltone '70, or Love Pedal Karl.

Yeah, McFuzz HOT or Pink Purple Fuzz or maybe even Emerald Green for the voxy edge.....

iirc, the zinky true grit fits that description perfectly. it's the first pedal that came to mind. the rat is still too polite for what you seek, I think. good luck!

Gritty, spitty, farty. Basically if you lower the power supply to around 4.5v iirc, all fuzzes get spitty.

Actually, forgot - ZVEX Fuzz Factory - insanity. I've got an octane that is great, but still tame compared to this

Oh yeah; the lowest settings on a Zvex FF are kinda like a tonebender--definitely gritty. I think some folks are afraid to gig with them 'cause of their penchant for noise and oscillation at other settings, though. It was way cool to hear one pop up on Weezer's green album a couple of times (e.g. "Island in the Sun" solo)!

A lot of grit and attitude, you can't beat the Fuzz Factory or MJM Britbender. But for only some grit and attitude, I've been using a Workingman's Blue lately.

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking pink purple fuzz and expandora. I'm not sure on the fuzz factory, it's a killer pedal, but that might be overkill (although i still want one). I've tried rats through my rig and agree with skreddy's assessment. I've got the 2 knob mjm britbender, it's ok, but a little over the top. Does the mosferatu cover the same ground as a hotcake (which I have)? Workingmans blue might be a good idea, and i haven't tried the zinky true grit. Weren't they getting blown out? The lovepedal karl might be an option based on some clips i've heard.

I'm not sure i exactly want a fuzz, but something gritty, but not necessarily obnoxious if you know what i mean. High end crispness without being buttery and pure. I guess i'm reaching here.

I just got mine back from Bob and its excellent alone and a great overall sound into the Honey Bee, tho the Pink Purple would give more control and variation obviously.... ( did you get to try the Emerald Green or LOW or Dyna Blue ? - they all have a nice edge in the treble)

If you talked to me before noon the day after a gig, I bet you'd find that I'm pretty gritty and snotty.

Hey! I was just gonna suggest the Neo-Drive. In fact, the original non BB Neo Drive...ample treble and a wee thin on bass for a perfectly snotty approach. The distortion is aggression, but can be tamed nicely if needed with guitar volume swells and a good guitar tone knob.

Oh that's right!!! You nailed it! The NEO Drive is a gritty, raw-sounding overdrive/distortion without being over the top or too fuzzy. I think this may be exactly what he's looking for.

Sounds like I need to check out the NEO. What's the differences in versions?

Hopefully, someone who has experience with both versions will chime in.

I only have the original circuit...which cuts like a mf'er yet sounds nice and chewy. The mod to the original is known as the "bigger bottom" mod or BB. It adds more bass or low mids...I haven't heard it. I like the original as-is.

Yeah I really liked the original Neo and put off getting the update.... but Im glad I did as it just fills in some of the bottom as it should be,,, I woulndt really call it 'big bottom', maybe 'correct bottom', it still sounds great into the HB- if you like that Honey Bee you'll dig the Neo.....

the Mos was also mentioned and for what you describe I think Alfs upcoming Zendrive would be better and a good candidate as well, depending on how much sustain you need...
