FINALLY got the Super Sport Direct Drive today, and spent about 30 minutes with it. I am VERY impressed. This is a really versatile box! Naturally, the first thing I do with any pedal is to see what the knobs do by playing with each pickup and each knob turned in 1/4 increments. Did you follow that? Poor english but I'm preaching to the choir here. Anyway, I can hear a TS influence, but much more too! I think it's going to satisfy my low-gain needs fine. With the drive all the way down, I have lots of color options -tone, harmonics, bass, presence knobs. This is a tweaker's delight. VERY good quality sound throughout, although I did manage to mush out the bass on one extreme setting, there's NOT alot of compression here. It may not be able to do everything, but songing lead tones are here and crunchy stuff as well (not what I'm after personally). It's not hard to tune in a great tone AT ALL -like 95% of the settings are great. Of course, do keep in mind that this is a glowing first review. I'm not a gushy type, I just pride myself on finding the good tones in a pedal fast. Got another well-known pedal today which failed the test miserably (which shall go un-named for now). What a pleasant surprise this SS is!

What kind of sounds are you trying/able to coax out of it? Also, what gear are you playing it thru?

Good point -that's helpful. I got an Allen Tonesavor combo running with 4 tubes through 2x12 closed and 2x10 open cab. Playing the parts tele with swampash/maple, Fralin steelpole pickups.I'm just rying to cop good tone. I tried to go for specific things for a while, but now I just go for what sounds best to me. I play a fake blues rock with jazz influence. Big SRV fan (but not trying to sound like him). The sounds I found in that short period were some fine singing lead tones in the (Hendrix?) category. Basically great tone, more marshally for te lead stuff I was trying to describe, but there were many cranked fender sounds to my ears too. All with tweaking. The harmonics knob is nice, but not suited to what I'm after. It can get a sweet Brian Setzer crank to it (never heard blonde amps, so I won't say that's the sound). The harmonics knob accounts for the crunch and more breakup when you turn up the drive. It's a higher gain pedal than I had thought, with driving marshall sounds aplenty (can get mighty psychedellic), but I got me another distortion that covers the high gain, this was meant to come under it in terms of gain. I don't know what else to say! It's got TRANSPARENCY in that alot of the detailed nuances of the guitar's pickups and wood come through unless you tweak for darker setting. If you reduce the harmonics like I did, you're compressing some, and reaching a TS kind of thing (though I never played a TS). That's about it I'm out of words for now!
