Jubilee has more gain than the 800. It has a gain boost switch, and it can get you close to metal territory. I think the Jubilee also has a more raspier sound, if that means anything to you. Both are great amps. The Julibee is a little more versatile.

I have a Jubilee 50 watt head...it is a channel switcher but getting the clean volume the same as the dirty volume well???? they share the same eq and master volume.....I love it but it is the pickiest amp I have ever had...It hated my THD Hotplate (affected the overall tone) and hates my AKG Wireless (affected the tone as well) but loves a good cord and a clean boost to drive it...and needs to be eq's carefully -- and despite that, it has tone to die for...just rather drier than most Marshalls, less sag or saturation if you will, very articulate for a Marshall....the other fellow in my band has had several 800's (2205-2204-bass head) and I have ran my guitar through them, actually IMHO the 800's have more gain on tap then the Jub and will saturate more depending on the model...To me the Jubilee sounds like a souped up Bluesbreaker Eric Clapton tone rather than the 800-hair metal 80's thing....hope this helps...

Strange, I found the 800's to have less gain than the Jubiliee's.The Jubilee uses clipping diodes in the preamp for the extra gain where the 800 doesn't.Both are great amps but IMO the Jubilee is little more versatile.I love my 2204 JCM800.

I played a friends Jubilee over a period of years (once twice a week at rehearsals) and I've played plenty of 800s.

I would def agree that it has a 'raspier tone'.

On a personal level I hate the JCM 800s fizzy, mushy, tone and I find them a rather souless experience to play (no offence 800 lovers!).

The silver jubilee is a different beast though (or rather it seemed to be for me) and I really enjoyed playing that amp.

But that's just my personal opinion - it's probably a subconscious thing because I prefered the grey colour instead of the usual Marshall black Smile

There was 1 variety of the JCM 800 that added some diodes, but that is NOT the amp that people talk about when they refer to a JCM 800 amp. The single channel JCM 800's (that's the ones people like) do not have a single diode in the audio circuit.

hmm how close spec wise? think someone could come up with a silver jubilee mod for a jcm800? just thinking out loud, seems almost impossible to find the 100 watt versions of the jubilee

The Slash model is pretty close in circuit if I remember correctly. You can pick them up a bit cheaper than an actual Jubilee on eBay

I still love my SLash head.
Different animal than the 800's. More liquid in the lead tones IMO.
I actually think my Slash sounds better than the old Jub head I had. Maybe the tighter as the innards aren't as loose from playing, no clue.

I was just thinking of writing Nik about the Jubilee. Great minds think alike I guess.
I'll have to see how long the wait is for a build. I wanted to get one for my wife for our anniversary coming up.
