Does anybody have any experience with the Hoffman Board kits?

I know Lawrence had one in his Bassman Reissue, and that amp sounded killer.

I was thinking about getting one for my SRRI just for an experiment.

How hard are they to put in? Would it be something a tech could do in a day or so?

Is there a big tonal difference (good or bad)? I'd imaging it would be a positive change, but you never know.

I would like to have my SRRI be point to point, so it would be easier to mod it and such.

Any thoughts are appreciated, as always.

I put one in my Bassman RI years ago, and belive it or not there wasn't much tonal change. If you put in good tubes, your pretty much good to go. The only real difference would be reliabilty.

As for your Super, you'd be better off getting a SF Super IMHO. It took me 8 plus hours of gutting/rewiring my Bassman, and then a few more of trouble shooting. Nothing really big, just some minor issues and frustration. Keeping in mind the Super has 'verb which can be a little harder to wire up and not as simple as the Bassman.

Do the math...

750-850 for a SF Super (the real deal)

240 plus tech fees (per hour) and you still have a RI with a handwired circuit board, and the same tones. Just my 2 cents.

I would sell your RI and get a SF, with all the mojo and tone included.

And yes, it's a '69 SF Super with all the trimmings. All I changed out were the baffle, faceplate, and speakers (the original CTS alnicos were all dry rotted). And a little circuit mods that had no affect on tone. I paid 750.00 for her too Wink

Doesn't really make sense to replace your board with another just because its PTP. What sonic qualities are you looking to change? You may want to swap out some caps on the existing, but a new board won't include any transformers.
Doug is a great person to deal with, he doesn't actually sell the boards direct anymore, but you can still get em from a number of dealers. His website will tell you where.
Theres quite a few things you could do to that amp to warm it up . Find a willing tech. My 2 cents.

I'm not at all disappointed with the tone of my Super. This would be just for an experiment, since I don't gig with it.

Lefty,

I went the silver race route already with a Twin and probably won't do it again. LONG STORY Mad

Thanks for the responses fellas.
