I bought a Pro Analog Scary Face on a whim (got a good deal on it) and am looking for some input. I was really ready to pull the trigger on a Tonebender type pedal (either the MKII by Pro Analog or a %13 Stardust) but this one popped up and I decided to give it a shot. In anticipation of receiving my Scary Face, can you owners out there comment on the tone (in comparison to London Fuzz or 69 would be especially useful). Also, anyone whos played both, a comparison would be cool.

Hey Flat!
I just got in a MKII Tonebender clone (on loan) the other day and I can honestly say that it lives up to the hype and THEN some. I've compared it to my MJM Brit Bender for the last few nites--it doesn't "blow it away" (IMO), but the MK II certainly has more gain and lots of "MOJO" on tap--really wicked sounding!! I'm scurrying thru my lot of goodies to figure out what I can sell off to get one of these MK II in the pedal farm! Eek

I'd expect alot from the Scary Face and I honestly believe it'll deliever. I think that Cubba65 has one, so maybe he'll chime in.

P.S. If you DON'T like the Scary--let me know Big Grin Big Grin

WillieBudda,
If it doesn't float my boat, you'll be first on the list.
I wanted to try a really nice fuzz-face type pedal again because my rig has changed and I've started using humbuckers again, so I figured "What the hell?" I used a London Fuzz for a while, but the one I had was VERY dark sounding...almost acted like a bass boost in my rig. I want something with nice strong mids, not "scooped" sounding.
So far the only fuzz I've kept has been the McFuzz Hot but I want something Germanium again.
I think if this doesn't do it I'm going to take the plunge on the %13 Stardust. I've been dragging my feet on that one for a few months due to the $225 price tag. Did I mention I can be cheap when it comes to pedals? Wink

I had the London and the Scary Face at the same time, and I had the '69 prior to that- the Scary Face had more in common with the '69 EQ-wise, as the London was darker, but I believe the Scary Face had more gain when maxed than the '69.

Also check out the "Fuzz Tourbox" thread, there's some reviews on there comparing the London to the Scary Face.

Hey Flat,
I hope it works for you and your rig. I've heard good things on the London Fuzz, 1) haven't played it and 2) I've heard it's "Dark" as well. The Divided by 13 stuff is something else I'd like to try as well! Let us know how it does for ya!

OK Willie B!!!

I have the MkII, the Top-Boost, and the Scary Face is on the way. Scotty's stuff is top-notch, everything I've tried from him I have really, really liked... don't want to carry on much here so you will have to email or call him directly.
