I need an amp for tomorrow. I have a choice b/t a '62 Tremolux, '65 Bassman that has been modded for two channels (footswitchable, and cascading gain), or a Blackface Bandmaster (don't know year). Cab(s) are original to the amps.

I need something that will cover most of the bases using a Klon and AC booster. So I guess big thing is a) pedal friendly, b) good clean sound.

All of these amps just sit around the house, and most of them have old tubes in them (except the tremolux, I retubed it)

I don't have any time to break out the board and play through these amps, I'll just have enough time to grab a guitar and make sure they work.

Thanks for whatever input you have!

p.s. I posted this at TGP too but I think you guys are a bit more buff on old fenders... Wink

you got three amps sitting around the house and you play none of them? ones been retubed. are the metal feet missing? what color is it? do all the volume knob go from 1 to 10? how many inputs do you need? are the handles tight?
i'd go buy a blues jr. and mic it if needed. Big Grin Cool

No, father-in-law = fender fanatic = bass player = amps sitting around that no one plays Smile

I'd go for the Bassman. Has a beefier OT then the Bandmaster and better cleans (stock, I don't know how the amp is modded). Should take overdrives and modulation effects very good. Blackface Fenders can be quirky when it comes to fuzzes.

Good luck.

I'm inclined to agree with John Stax here. I play a '71 Bandmaster Reverb out live, but it's been blackfaced AND the OT was upgraded with a Bassman transformer. Mine is very receptive to pedals. I have only tried one fuzz and I didn't care for it, but I am not a huge fan of fuzz in general. But overdrives, comps, modulation and clean boost effects all sit very well with it.
