What kind of tones/pickup selections are you going for with the different overdrives and fuzz?

Here's my best shot at answering your question. My main guitar is a strat with a Dimarzio HS-2 in the bridge and Custom '54s in the middle and neck.
1. London Fuzz -- I like to have the fuzz knob maxed out for that heavy sound. With the fuzz knob this high, the London does not get totally clean when you back off the guitar's volume. I prefer to use either (a) the neck pickup or (b) the bridge and middle combined. 2. Hot Cake -- I set this pedal for a nice grinding OD that sounds great on its own or when pushing my amp's distortion channel. The Hot Cake pushes the distortion channel without altering the channel's overall tone. The tone is smooth and not overly bright. I mostly prefer to use the bridge pickup with this pedal, as well as the compressor. 3. Java Boost -- I use the stock Rangemaster treble boost setting, but with the tone knob rolled off a little. I mainly use the pedal with my amp's distortion channel to make the tone more vivid. Really stands out in a mix. 4. TBIAC -- I set this pedal for a thick OD seting that is very compressed and has some high end chime. The TBIAC is probably the only pedal that can do that! I use this pedal on its own and also with the Java Boost on. All pickup settings sound great with the TBIAC. 5. Mr. Ed -- This pedal is like a cross between OD, distortion, and fuzz. It sounds a lot like EJ's tone when you play barre chords. Individual notes are more like a fuzz. I prefer to use the bridge pickup with Ed, which gives a nice medium to high gain sound. 6. Brown Sound -- A great pedal on its own or with the amp's distortion. I set it for a nice crunch with plenty of transparency. This pedal pushes the amp different from the other ODs I have in that it makes the sound thicker/chunkier. All pickup positions sound good. 7. Vox V830 -- I mainly use this in conjunction with my amp's distortion to get a high-gain, mid-boosted tone. All pickup positions sound good. Hope this helps! where did you buy the colored cables
I would love to make a bit more room on my pedal board with them. Thanks. Mike |

Mike,
The colored cables were made by Arion for the pedal board they used to make for Arion pedals. The cables come in a six pack. Your best bet is to check with stores who may have been Arion dealers in the 1980s -- this is because I don't think the cables are made anymore. I was lucky enough to find two packs in the bottom of a box at a music store. RD ***** "Wait a minute -- that sure doesn't look like a dachshund to me!" |
