I miss my Holowon Static Egg fuzz pedal (he "borrowed" it and never returned it )

Well there's no hostility to it, but you can say whatever you feel is necessary.

Look...bottom line...Dan is a big boy. I'm sure he is mature enough to understand that a person who supposedly in his words "treated him well" and considered him a friend might feel more than a bit put off that he up and left without saying goodbye.

It's as simple as that.
