quote: Rivera amps are pretty fucking great tonally. The only thing that has turned me off about them is all the damn push pull pots they have. If I wanted a Mark IV I would have bought a fucking Mesa. But the tone is nothing short of amazing. Probably the best PC board amps ever made (as in it has all the openness one associates with a well designed point to point wired amp)...Although VHT and Budda make some pretty nice sounding PC board amps as well...especially Budda. ------------------------ There once was a man who swallowed a fly... |

quote: I think they have one of the finest clean tones I have heard in an 'under a grand' amp. It is so beautiful, crystal clean and sprakalishous... ...you need to go checkout the dirt channel on the chubster...yeah, rivera and his push=pull love affair ...who has time to walk over to the amp and pull out the knob? |

quote: Well if it was a single knob it wouldn't be a big deal...but ever fucking knob on most of his amps has some sort of push/pull function. Hasn't he heard of fucking mini toggle switches? Couple that with the tremendous sensitivity of each knob and balancing the tones on two or three channels becomes a nightmare. I'm not even going to get into the whole issue of bumped knobs during transport to and from shows...having to check to see if your settings on all those knobs are correct is a pain...the slightest turn throws your whole sound out of wack and push pull pots that make huge changes in your tone get bumped to their off positions so easily. I had a friend who had a Rivera with a stereo power section, three channels and a built in analog chorus and spring reverb. Beautiful sounding amp...He wound up selling it and getting a Marshall and a Fender. He said it was easier to lug two amps around than to deal with having to fix his settings at every show...and sometimes still not ending up with what he started with. Great sounding amps, but I wouldn't use them live unless they had a model that didn't rely so heavily on the push/pull pots. ------------------------ There once was a man who swallowed a fly... |
