..Like Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, Ordinary Boys with their lame pastiches of New Wave.

Better to buy reissues of The Jam, Buzzcoc.ks, Clash etc. The real thing is way better.

There's nothing quite like an old guy spoiling the fun for the young-uns, is there Zeo?

The simple fact of the matter is that while I don't like these bands either, they are kids bands for kids. And I'm not a kid. Nor are you.

Might as well complain that there isn't room for a golden retriever and a ruck-sack in the back of a formula one racing car.

Try not to be such a grumpy old man Zeo, there's a good chap.

Let's be clear.

Zeo is a righteous dude who does not discriminate on the grounds of age.

The bands under discussion should not be accepted because they are shit, not because they are young.

Cool

You seem to be missing my point.

The bands under discussion should not be accepted precisely because they are doing old shit. The original stuff was, and still is, better than their lame copy of it.

Zeo accepts groups (of any age) who are making good music in a new way.

Cool

speaking as a youth. . .I would have to say

music sucks ass now for the most part . . .

save a handfull of bands. . . I would say

the percentage of crap to good music was much

lower on the crap end back in the day.

Cool

Sex Pistols et al were just doing lame copies of MC5 and The Stooges, yet I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't have listened to some old bastard whining on about them being old-hat when they were around.

The kids are alright.

There are very few truly seminal acts in the history of rock, and I'm willing to bet you don't even like most of them.

Oh, and all this coming from a man who only a few days ago was singin the praises of Doves; probably the most f.uck-boring, uninspired, unadventurous band in contemporary Britain.

Or is that Elbow? Or Cold Play? Or any of the other myriad of sound-alike bands?

So hard to tell.

Actually, I thought there was hope when the first Rammstein was released.

Too bad I was wrong! Frown

As it happens, I don't recall anyone whining about the Pistols being old hat. The oldsters were rather worried about punk as it goes. The writing was on the wall.

If the Pistols were influenced by anyone it was Faces.

Oh, and all this coming from a man who asserted that 'Kraftwerk were better than the Beatles' Tell me more I'm all ears LOL.

And I'll continue to sing their praises. They do a convincing fusion of rock and electronica, and have taken it mainstream, as many of their ilk have failed to do. They write memorable and uplifting tunes and deliver the goods live.

You tell me. I recall you defending the contemptible Coldplay with a passion not so long ago on OJ.

Perhaps you were just doing it for the sake of an argument.

To each her own, I suppose.

Doves have an interesting history. They evolved from rave - era dance outfit to a kickass rock n roll band.

You can't travel that road without trying the odd innovation here and there.

If I wanted taxing I'd try a correspondence course in algebra, or root canal work without anaeshetic, or Xiu Xiu.

Nothing like them. The current fad seems to be to trade on the tendency of the gullible to mistake leaping about a lot and shouting for dynamism.

Each to their own; I like challenging music that pushes the boundaries. You like trad-rock.

Dif'rent strokes...

Maybe you should remember that when you are dissing the music that the youngers are digging.

On one hand you celebrate mundanity and banality in music and on the other you attack it.

Meh.

BREAKING NEWS: Music is entertainment. Musicians stand a better chance of making a living doing what they love and developing their art the more people they entertain.

Each to their own; I like anything as long as it's good. I don't feel the need to check that something is inaccessible to 99.9% of the population before subjecting myself to it.

Gullibility has nothing to do with youth.

You should talk to someone about your unhealthy preoccupation with age. You're sowing the seeds of self - loathing in the unlikely event that you're still rockin 10 years from now.

I know I will be.
