almost to the day of its release...early low-fi from a big-fi....a harbinger of alt. rock 'solo singer/songwriter' LP's to come, from a Chris Stamey to Alex Chilton, and all the in betweens...
...sonme of it is just amazing, melodically compelling songs, striped and unadorned...
'isolation' is just so bittersweet, but hopeful... 'love' is poignantly wrenching...'remember' an personal anthem, and amazing song, esp. the last wistful refrains...'working class hero'..'mother'...course...but 'hold on' kinda sucks, and 'i found out' is forced and sounds dated to me.... for a little kid as I was back then, with a Mom recently having died, and other terrible things happening that all kids endure - it was an album I played an awful lot...
I usually had to pick up the needle before the LPs last tune tho
I was surprised.I think it's his best.I like all the songs.I could never say the same for the beatles.Where I would like one song.Hate the next.It sounded like he was really into this album from start to finish.
