my amp guy told me that when I took my Sovtek in for service.

That was his FIRST question actually . . . do you use the stand-by when turning on the amp?

"Uh, no sir"

"I'm really a drummer" I said.

He fixed it good tho, had it back to me the next day. Works out of his messy garage at 3rd & Geary. Builds guitars, too.

Yeah good ol' cathode stripping. That's why I don't buy used tubes anymore, ya never know how the dingbat before you treated em'. I've heard of some techs installing a time delay relay on the power-on, so the heaters get a good minute to heat up before the high voltage hits the tubes.
