So... I'm starting to get into this new band as a guitarist... a nd I'm thinking of updating my amp.

Jeff/Ty/Oakie know my current set up - I run a PRS/Gibson into a Boss NS-2 with a Guyatone OD-2 and a Crybaby 535q in the signal, then right into me amp. Yay. 'Cept me amp is a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.

I'm thinkin' of switching, and my choices are, in terms of where I think I'm going:

1) Traynor YC-40c 2x10
2) Peavey Triple XXX combo 2x12

Which would you pick, and why?

People who have heard my tone - any real point in changing? My tone's not great, and it's not the worst, so I dunno.

Guess it depends on application jerkass...What kinda music, the XXX is Peavey's version of the Triple Rectum Fire whereas the Traynor is probably more Fenderish...

Definitely a loud heavy rock setting.

this band that I'm working on starting is kinda pixies, kinda rival schools, kinda a lot of things... but I'm likely going to be melodic riffy type guy.

Sounds like that Peavey XXX may be more to your liking if it is HEAVY rock...They have that saturated lead channel....I personally really like the Fender Deluxe, although the first channel lends itself to more of a blues sound, you could also try a dist pedal to get more grind outa dat Fender....All in all if ya want more balls in yer sound, Peavey or a dist pedal and keep da Fender...Also humbucker add balls too.....Smile

I would just stick with the Hot Rod. It's not a bad amp and covers alot of bases musically.

If you're poor get a Reverend. You'll thank me, you'll bless me.
Great Fender to Marshall sounds.

seems like neither amp is 'right' for what you want.

get a used jcm800 2x12, not the 4212 but the 4104.

maybe some TB pedals too.

just my worthless opinion, so...

Yeah. The Hellhound. I've had one for years. It's a very nice low price amp.

If I was starting out I would probally get one of those JCM800 2x12 combos and a Fender twin to mix with it later. That would be ideal. There's also a nice Vox Clone that Valvetech makes. I own a 2 x12 Hayseed 30 for $1250. I love it.

That's what I use...except I'm using a Marshall Plexi and 4x12 instead of the 800 these days.
