Every Soldano I have tried (or heard in concert) always sounded like crap. Not a single one made me want to rush out and buy one...there's way better amps out there for the same amount of money or less.
I'd sooner get a Bogner and I'm not real keen on them either.

These days...yes he kinda does.
Truth be told...Lou Reed doesn't know squat about gear...he just goes to the people that have a rep for making high end stuff so he doesn't have to think about it...huge Pete Cornish pedalboards...Soldano amps...etc.
He probably got advice from some pro amp/gear tech and just went with it. The Soldano doesn't really fit the sound he is associated with...and neither does the Pete Cornish stuff.
It would really surprise me if he actually picked all that stuff out himself and not some tech.
