Now the economy is showing signs of recovery...

Bush will be re-elected, as I told Ty two years ago.

Frown

Americans have shown time and again, they can look a problem square in the face, and then intentionally ignore it hoping it never was there.

They will "stay the course" with George W. Bush.

You know as well as I do that even though the economy is showing signs of recovery, unless Bush can resolve the unemployment situation and turn the tide in the Middle East, he doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning another election.

While what you say about Americans ignoring obvious problems is often true...one thing many of them won't be able to ignore is how much free time they have to vote on election day because they have no job.

The only way Bush will get re-elected is if he and his administration resolve the problems above OR if some heavy shit goes down between now and election day that scares the American public enough that they won't want to change administrations in the middle of a crisis.

I almost get the impression you want him to remain in office. Big Grin

part of me REALLY wants him to be around for another term, so when the shit really starts hitting the fan, he's still around to take the blame.

I mean, the shit is going to hit, there's no avoiding it. I just don't want Kerry or Dean to have to stand there and try to deal with it.

I also have a nagging feeling that Bush isn't really interested in a second term. He and his buddies have their new oil reserves all locked up already. More reason to make him stay in office - make him sleep in his own bed, as it were. . . no "take the money and run"

and yeah, I know this is like cutting off my nose to spite my face . . . but my face ain't such a grand thing anymore Frown

Well, from a strictly self-serving taxation standpoint, I suppose I should (tho I don't). But from any other vantage point, I do not support his policies, or prescriptions. I think you know this too. Mad

Ty, I think you deny the reality of electoral politics in favor of viewing his relectioon inmostly 'want' terms. You ascribe far too much import to the economy via actual job creation: El Busho will successfully argue to Americans that the economy is picking up, and that job creation is always on the tail end of an economic upswing. They'll bite that nut. He'll successfully peddle the 'economy's getting better even though we had this horrible international burden (9/11-Afghansnastan-Iraq) -- just goes to show how great you Americans really are, and you know folks, we ARE creating new jobs here and it's all moving forward from the Clinton mess'.

By November of next year, the economy will be percolating (yes) with only modest actual job creation (watch productivity numbers continue upwards ie - people doin two jobs worth of work just to keep their jobs!), but the argument will be that it HAS bottomed and the futuire requires sunglasses. Smile

Iraq is going to quiet down. I think that the increasing 'iraqi-ianization' of the conflict will be proceeding, and the number of US casualities will diminish, especially if Saddam & cabal are 'captured'. Again, a slippery area to predict I fear. Regardless, the doomsayers/demos on Iraq will necessarily have to walk an electoral tightrope, balancing from appearing to be capitalizing on a 'national security' issue and correctly admonishing the Bush policies and approach. Campaigning for President claiming that the rest of the world does not support our efforts, and thus invalidates Bush's Iraq activities, are NOT viable to a domestic electoral campaign: The sad fact that most in modern America could care less about what our allies thinks has been demonstrated numerous times post 9/11. It's a hunker down, go it alone society, trust the President reality we live in post 9/11.

just my take...I still think Shrub'll be re-elected, tho I can see better choices all about the place.

You place too much import on supposed electoral 'misery' factors that aren't really there in an electoral process. Symbols will be manipulated to offset such vagracies.

I honestly thank "whoever/whatever" that none of my friends are in that number. Most have been out of the service for a few months or so.

Everytime a "serviceman from Michigan" was teased on the news when this shit started I got a knot in my gut.
