I got one o' deez:
http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-MAC-1402VLZPRO.html

It sounds very nice, but I don't have so much preamp experience that I know the difference. But I hear that it's real good and stuff.

Bean curd girl and I are getting along swimmingly. Smile

I'd totally send you the mixer, but I'm not sure how to unrack it, so you'd have to come here and do that part yourself.

Mackie pre's are really great. A Berhinger will do the job but not as well.

Supposedly they are Mackie clones, but they have to cut the cost somewhere and you can't be that much less expensive with just cheap labor alone. They use cheaper components.

The Berhinger's aren't as warm and open sounding. They generate a lot of high frequency garbage that is difficult to roll off without cutting necessary frequencies.

So if you like to make decent sounding recordings the Mackie is worth it.

If you don't have the money to spend and you don't need a high quality sounding recording, the Berhinger will do. I have one that I use for headphone practice and when I need one in a pinch, but I'm planning on getting a Mackie soon. Jeff has one at home and it kills all our other mixers.

Anyway...you will prolly not follow my advice like usual and end up getting something you end up returning, but at least I tried to warn you. Big Grin

You would be surprised how good you can get a shitty mic to sound with a really good preamp.

However a shitty preamp will make a good mic sound like ass.

Your vocal was recorded with an Oktava with a Mackie pre. If we had use the Berhinger or the Ross boards you would not have gotten as nice a sound.

that's just not true. I greatly value what advice you offer...but I think you may be confusing my failed effort to buy a 'correct' Marshall as somehow disrespecting your opinion is just plain silly...

you said get one like mine, and I tried, except in a 1x12 combo. after I got it, then all the advice flowed...Frown

(I did email you asking what model you had, and you just blew me off...Frown..so I did my best, and it was not good enough as it turned out...I mean, the mistakles were mostly your aloofness and my poor selection...)
