I already bought a domain name. Now I just need a simple site to send to a host company. I just got this book on HTML and have not started reading it. Am I going the right direction?

you could but if memory serves me you will get all of the word codes and what not stuck in it.. your better off with note pad or something with basically no features....

I basicaly did all my work on unix's pico when i had a telnet accound and before i moved up to Netscape and Front Page..

I have a friend who is pretty into this stuff...

mostly he said to find someone's page you like, and pilfer there html code (view page sourcein your browser on the right click of your mouse) and just amend it to your needs...

that's what I am currently doing...copying them in word is fine, just make sure you save it as an html, not .txt or .doc...

alot if not mmiost of the web hosting services offer domain registration as the package, but really, what you may well want is a web host who can be contacted directly and assist you as invariably it will be needed...also, make sure your 'domain regristration' isnt in your real name, or your 'real' address and phone number. anybody can get that, and as a participant on these mNY forums/boards, you may well not want that info to be common knowledge...a web host can make sure about this if you like...

you may well do a google search for 'web hosting reviews' and see what independants say about the numerous companies avaliable...they most all charge about the same. it
's just a matter of how much assistance you may want, how much storage and the upload/download activity you anticipate...

it is a more involved process than I originally envisioned...typical of life though...good luck, and remember that Chris and JL & Stereo Type maintain their own site...

The site I'm building is really simple. It's a company name and a mission statement, that's about it. However the Co. I'm doin this for ( I wish it was mine) need email. So I did a search and it all seems fairly easy. Not simple, but easy. Thanks for the helpful hints duder, I'm sure they'll come in handy.
On another note: I'm sad that JL and Stereo Type have sites and they haven't told me. Very sad indeed.

A few more notes: never put anything up that you don't want record of existing forever(ish). There are publicly accessible archives of old versions of websites. And anybody can hit "save".

Also, I fist pigeons!

So if you register your domain name under a name that may not exist, and you forget your password and your domain name expires, you're pretty fucked then, right?

A group I know just lapsed on their domain renewel and the guy that set it up is off in Brazil somewhere, so they're fucked for a li'l while. They can't get any email and their whole site is down.
