It will totally work for two reasons...

1) It appeals to her womanly sense of vanity.

2) It shows you are vulnerable by admitting your weaknesses (i.e. your playing) in front of her. Vulnerability get's chicks all hot and bothered and it makes them very forgiving of any and all guitar buying transgressions...just don't go and blow the mood by asking if you can make your chowder delivery "around the back".

Male vunerability will only get you so far.
